POST PHOTO/JIM PHILLIPS hy Hard work pays off By SCOTT VINNACOMBE II Post Correspondent DALLAS — Senior player, leader, friend, shooting guard and captain of the Dallas High School basketball team, Paul McCue has exploded this season and for good reason. “From the time he came into the pro- gram, he’s always worked hard” says his coach and cousin Pat McCue. Continuous improvement is always something young Paul has strived for. The coach says Paul is a quiet type with a lot of inner strength, but that his game “speaks volumes” about the work he’s done. Opponents seem to agree. “Whenever we play, they (opposing teams) really have to concentrate on him defensive- ly,” says the coach. That is very easy to understand, considering Paul is averag- ing 24 points, six rebounds, four as- sists and three steals a game. “He brings so much to the game,” continues the coach, “that they need to spend a lot of time working on him.” Paul says he always tries to practice and get as much playing time as he can. Leading by example, he shows that practice and hard work are the best things a young athlete can do to put himself in good playing form. “I play basketball every day,” says Paul. “And that helps out a lot.” The big-time scorer also credits the encouragement he's received from his parents as a major contributor to his bi Dallas tops Lehman 54-44 i for Dallas’s McCue “Tough teams that give us good competition are the best games.” Paul McCue Dallas captain current success. “My parents have sup- ported me and helped make it a good time getting to where I am.” Several nights ago, Paul and his teammates beat the Crestwood team that leads Division II of the Wyoming Valley Conference. He feels the team played really well and that hard fought games are his favorite kind. “That’s the most fun I've ever had,” says Paul. “Tough teams that give us good competition are the best games.” The Dallas captain likes the kind of games where he and his teammates can band together through adversity and win in a close game. “It's always fun to be up 30 or 40 points, but it’s a lot bet- ter to win a tough, competitive game.” Paul McCue started playing with the squad as a sophomore after playing for the junior varsity. He worked incredibly hard to move up and play with a senior squad that was very good, according to the coach. “He's where he is now be- cause of the work he’s done.” The coach praises Paul's work ethic, See McCUE, pg 10 Dynamic duo leads Snyder & Clemente Brad Fagula scored 22 points and Jeff Clemente 15 as Snyder & Clemente defeated 7-8 210) 4s Wilkes-Barre Pallet 58-50 to reamin undefeated.
