16 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, November 28, 2002 Back Mountain students inducted into Wyoming Sem Cum Laude Society Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School recently in- ducted 12 students into the Cum Laude Society, the nation- al academic honor society for college preparatory schools. New inductees from the Back Mountain are seniors Budin, daughter of Dr. Robert Budin and Dr. Diane Lowe, Trucksville, and Eric Feinstein, son of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Fein- stein, Shavertown. The goal of the Cum Laude Society is the encouragement and rewarding of academic ex- cellence. Wyoming Seminary’s chapter of the society was es- tablished in 1930, and each year since then, previous mem- bers of the organization elect new senior class members in both fall and spring. The stu- dents elected in the fall must have a junior-year average of at least 3.4 (out of a possible 4.0); the spring inductees must have attained a cumulative junior- and senior-year average of at least 3.1. Young wins Alumni Service Award Wyoming Seminary senior Christopher Young of Dallas re- ceived the 2002 Alumni Service Awards during Homecoming on October 19, in recognition of their leader- ship and ser- vice .. to - the Wyoming Sem- inary commu- nity. Young was one of eight seniors nominated for the award, given during half- time of the homecoming football game. Members of the Wyoming Seminary Alumni Council inter- view the nominated students and determine the recipients. Young, son of Steven and Na- dine Young, is vice president of the senior class, captain of the cross country team and a three- year varsity letter winner in cross country. He also.is a two- year varsity letter winner as manager of the ice hockey team. He is an active volunteer at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, the Wilkes-Barre Triathlon, the Riverside Rumble and the Back Mountain Library Auction. He is an Eagle Scout and a cross country Gold Award winner. Christopher Young Rudolph play at Trucksville Nursery Trucksville Nursery School's Parent Enrichment Group will present “Rudolph-The Red- Nosed Reindeer” on Thursday, December 5 and Friday, Decem- ber 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Educa- tional Building of the Trucksville United Methodist Church. Essay contest The St. John Neumann Divi- sion I of the Ladies Ancient Or- der of Hibernians is holding an Irish History Essay Writing Con- test. The contest is open to grades 6-12. The deadline is January 5, 2003. The topic for grades 6-8 is “Irish at Gettysburg”. Firs place winner will receive $500, second place $250, third place $125 and two honorable mentions each will receive $50. The topic for Grades 9-12 is “Irish Influences in America’s Police and Fire Departments”. First place winner will receive $1,000, second place $500, third place $250 and two honor- able mentions each will receive $100. John Bednarz, Shavertown, son of Vivian and John Bednarz, is a sophomore majoring in com- puter science in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a grad- uate of Dallas Senior High School.
