4 Thursday, November 22, 2001 Second grade students presented a patriotic Thanksgiving show last week for family and friends. Each boy wore a red or white boutonniere provided by Kathy Stegman. “We did the show for the kindergarten and for the rest of the school and we're going to the Meadows Nursing Home to do it,” said Joshua Dymond. Even with all of those prac- tices, this show for the parents, grandparents and guardians was the most important for the children. “I'm scared,” said Mol- ly Grompone as she awaited the start. The program, titled “Our Thanksgiving Tribute to Ameri- ca,” featured patriotic songs like “Youre a Grand Ole Flag” and “This Land is Your Land” interspersed with facts about the flag. Did you know ... that no flag flies outside the White House when the president is “Freedom gives us a chance to make our own choices.” Alyssa Charney Jess Adams said, “We can go to any school, have any friends and go anywhere we want if we have our parents’ permission.” “I am free to read whatever I like. I wish everyone were free like me,” said Amanda Kotch. “We can say what we want as long as we don't use bad words,” was part of Andrew Santora’s message. “It makes me sad when I see people on TV who are not free,” said Madison Winters. And Alyssa Charney’s state- ment included, “Freedom gives us a chance to make our own not in Washington? ... That Boi - there is always a flag outside a i : voting place? .. That the Seventeen second graders world’s largest flag is 505 feet by 250 feet? ... That astronaut Neil Armstrong left a flag on the moon in 1969? In addition to handy facts like these, one student from each of the five homerooms presented a paragraph on what they think freedom means. shared the duty of presenting a poem written by John Wayne entitled “Why I Love Her.” The grand finale was the ap- pearance of the Statue of Liber- ty (Dana Carey) and Uncle Sam (Korey Sessoms) to lead the class in singing “God Bless America.” The class then retired to the cafeteria for a Cast Party.
