12 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, October 25, 2001 Pirates sweep weekend games Ken Suchoski scored two goals on Saturday, Oct. 20 against the Haverford Hawks in a 6-2 victory, and turned in a strong defensive effort on Sun- .day, Oct. 21 against the Grundy Senators, to lead the Pocono Pi- rate Pee Wee A ice hockey team to a weekend sweep in DVHL league action. Also registering a goal was Ricky Rose (Shavertown). Eric Wroblewski (Dallas), and win- ning goaltender Drew Slocum (Shavertown) keyed a strong team defensive effort. On Sunday Kevin Zirnheld and Max Van Gorder (Paupack) scored two goals each to lead the Pirates to a 6-2 win. Rose had an assist. Drew Slocum was the winning goaltender with 22 saves. The Pee Wee Ice hockey Pi- rates are next in action on Sat- urday, Oct. 28 against the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens at the Ice Box in Pittston. Pirate Squirt “A” ice hockey team wins two The Pocono Pirates Squirt A ice hockey team remained unde- feated in Delaware Valley Hock- ey league play with two victories this weekend. The Pirates won Saturday's game versus the Hatfield Ice Dogs in Philadelphia 3-2. Alex Slocum of Shavertown tied the game, scoring two goals, with assists from John Nugent and Sean Davis of Clark Summit. Chris Ostrowski of Pittston scored the game winner with an assist from Davis. On Sunday, the Pirates con- tinued their winning ways with a 3-0 shutout of the visiting Delco Phantoms. Back Mountain Cyclones tie Blitz The Back Mountain Cyclones tied the undefeated Mountaintop Blitz 2-2 in a “nail-biter” Sunday in Mountaintop. Down 1-0 two minutes into the match, Alex Slocum an- swered with an shot midway- through the frst half. The tie score was only temporary as the Blitz scored their second goal by the end of the half. An awesome defense led by David Zurek, Carson Baker, An- drew Payne, Brad Johnson and goalie Mike Gashi kept the Blitz scoreless for the second half. With 30 seconds remaining, Zurek passed the ball to Harry Schall, who drove up the right sideline for one final rocket shot on goal to tie the game. The Cyclones will travel Sun- day to Bloomsburg to play the Pound Dogs in the first playoff.
