Horlacher took an early 4-1 lead after three innings and held held that score until the fifth, when Back Mountain's Sara Brown scored to make it 4-2. In the sixth, Sarah Pieczynski's single scored Nikki Gelso and Kelly Corbett to @:ic the game up. Lauren Collini, who had relieved Joanna Williamson on the mound for Back Mountain, held Hor- lacher scoreless until the ninth, matched all the way by Horlacher hurler Jamie Hoyt, who went the dis- tance. But with one out in the bottom of the ninth and Liz Hemminger at third, Collini’s wild pitch allowed the winning n. ® Bob Horlacher girls next game didn’t go as well, when they lost to Northwest-Bethlehem 14-0 Saturday. But they bounced back Sunday to down Christy Mathewson 11-0. Hoyt pitched both games. On Monday, Horlacher beat Pocono Mountain 5-3 to earn a rematch Tues- day night with undefeated Northwest- @cthlehem, which the local team must beat twice to advance to the state fi- nals. Pittston 18, Bob Horlacher 14 Winning pitcher Brandon Baritsky went 5 innings with 7 K's and a triple as Pittston came from behind to defeat Horlacher 18-14. Horlacher was led by Chris Barbacci and Mark Mead with 2 hits apiece and Corey Kurtkowski with a double. 2 BMT American 17, Pittston 7 Josh Backes had a single and triple, 3 RBI's and scored 3 runs to lead Ameri- can over Pittston 17-7. Plains 7, Mountaintop 0 Ray Black pitched a completed game 1 hitter with 12 strikeouts as Plains bested Mountaintop 7-0. Kingston 16, Northwest 4 In a game shortened by the 10 run rule Kingston defeated Northwest by a score of 16-4. Justin Pacovsky and Ryan Barber each had 3 hits for Kingston and Mike Blessing picked up the win. Ray Bierbach led the Northwest hitters with a pair of singles. Tom Kittle took the loss. On Wednesday they defeated Ed-Lark 4-0. Adam Singer pitched a complete game four hit shutout with seven strikeouts. This turned out to be his fi- " nal Little League game because on Fri- day he broke his collarbone in a bicycle accident. Ken Pollock had two hits for Back Mountain. In the Losers’ Bracket Finals on Fri- day, they lost to Back Mountain Ameri- can by a score of 12-6. Jared Kopetchne had two hits while Mike Davies and Zeke Zaleskas each had doubles. Back Mountain Lower Valley is also competing in the Fetch’'s Wyoming Tournament. On Saturday they defeat- ed Forty Fort 12-8. Matt Hufford and Ken Pollock each had three hits, in- cluding a double by Hufford and a dou- ble and a triple by Pollock. Zeke Za- leskas had two doubles while Jared Kopetchne and Mike Davies each had a double. Brad Fagula contributed a triple for the winners. Fagula, Davies and Zaleskas combined for 10 strike- outs. On Saturday they lost to the Kingston District team 9-6. Mike Davies had two hits while Brad Fagula and Zeke Zaleskas each had doubles. Dallas Gridiron Club golf tourna- ment Dallas Gridiron Club’s Annual Golf Tournament will be held Sun., Aug. 5 with a 7:45 shotgun start at the Blue Ridge Golf Course. Format is captain and crew. There will be many prizes in- cluding a grand prize for a trip for 2 to the Carribean for the first hole in one. Cost is $75 which includes green fees, cart, refreshments on course, buffet dinner and many prizes. Hole sponsors for $50 or tee sponsors for $25 will be greatly appreciated among with any merchandise or gift certificates for the awards dinner. Dr. George Speace records hole-in-one at Huntsville Dr. George Speace II of Shavertown, recorded his first career hole-in-one on Sunday July 22. George aced the 163 yard par three third hole using a five iron. The shot was witnessed by playing partners Lee Plank, Jr., Paul Olsen and Kristen Armstrong. Orlando gets an ace Mike Orlando scored his first hole in one at the Irem Temple Country Club on Sun., July 15. His ace came on the 150 yard 17th hole. He used a 8 iron. Witnessing the ace were Joe Orlando, Ray Lucarella and Gary Vanderburg. L-L girls sports physicals On Wed., July 25, the girls physicals for Lake-Lehman will be held at the se- nior high at 9 a.m. for field hockey, cross country, and volleyball. Make-up exams will be held at the high school, on Tue., July 31, at 5 p.m. for all fall sports for boys and girls who may have missed the specified dates.
