4 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, June 13, 2001 Lake-Lehman (continued from page 1) grasp the opportunity and be willing to take a risk.” He be- lieves that all great accomplish- ments come from searching within to find that aspect of one- self which has the courage to dare. He urged his classmates of 2001 to “... be willing to dare.” In her two speeches, Janel Janiczek challenged listeners to take advantage of the opportuni- ties presented by life. She stressed the bounty of choices that each of the graduates pos- sesses. Whether it be the work force, college or the armed forces, she values all the options which are available to the gradu- ating class and are contained in each individual venue of their future. She believes that the most important value to attain after graduation is appreciation for what one does, and the per- severance to be the best at what one does. She also spoke about the will- ingness of the graduating class to serve others to better them- selves was an important value. She reiterated Martin Luther King Jr.'s words: “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” She reminded the gradu- ates that choices, as one grows older, have harder -conse- quences. However, the choices that remain open to each and every graduate are the choices that will allow them to be as successful as they could possi- bly be. “Never miss a chance because you are afraid,” Sarah Davis said about the overwhelming realiza- tion for the graduates that a new chapter is beginning in their lives, and the starting time is now. She addressed the fleeting personality of time. She men- tioned how it would be nice if they could stay forever young, but everyone knows this is not possible. Sarah ended with a song and the lyrics, “I hope you dance.” The commencement address was delivered by Barbara E. King, the Associate Dean of Stu- dent Affairs of Wilkes University. She presented in her speech a moral guideline for each gradu- ate to follow. In it she included the importance of a continued education, to be comfortable in the lifestyle one has chosen, to respect the differences of others, and challenge oneself in every- day life. Reminiscing about times past, she mentioned good times in high school and the memories that will last forever. She reminded all students that they are products of Lake- Lehman, and no matter how much they anticipate the future, never to forget the past. The 43rd Annual Commence- ment of Lake-Lehman High School was a celebration of those who met the requirements set forth by the state of Pennsyl- vania and the Lake-Lehman School District. However, it was much more than this. The stu- dents were not merely graduat- ing high school, but graduating a way of life. No longer would they be observing from afar the mysterious thing called the “real world,” but rather they would be experiencing it firsthand. We would like to extend our sincer- est congratulations to the Lake- Lehman class, and all gradu- ates, of 2001. Janel Janiczek, salutatorian and Sarah Davis, valedictorian.
