Among their many philanthropies, the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa are involved in Adopt-A-Highway maintenance project, raising money for Toys For Tots, and a bowl-a-thon to raise money for their local chari- ty for multiple sclerosis. Painting, photo raffle for Women’s Club Dr. Karen Boback, President, Greater Federated Women's Club - Harveys Lake is proud to announce the donation of a nautical pastel and a framed, signed photo as part of the club’s fundraising program. The pastel, painted by an eight member team from the MAC Art Gallery, Harveys Lake, is an artist ren- dering of a photo taken by Charlotte Bartizek which appeared on the cover of the 2000 Guide to the Back Mountain supplement, published by The Dallas Post. “With the talent of Mrs. Bartizek combined with the artists at the MAC Gallery, our fundraiser is sure to be a success,” Dr. Boback said. “Our club is very grateful for their community minded spirit.” Both items will be raffled off at the club’s May dinner meeting. They have a party room for surprise parties, bridal showers, baby showers and kid's birthday parties. The meeting room holds about 25 people, and they let nonprofit groups, such as churches, schools, scouts and the 4-H club, use it for free. They also of- fer a community fund raiser pro- gram where they make the hoa- gies and the charitable group makes $1 per hoagie. They have shown their com- munity spirit in many other ways. You may have seen their colorful ice cream cart at Back Mountain baseball. They gra- ciously agreed to be a collection site for the Back Mountain Food Bank last November and Decem- ber. They are on the Back Mountain Library Auction Com- mittee. They were one of the sponsors of Graduation 2000, where they provided free ice cream rand helped set up the gymnasium. Mama & Papa's has hoagies, sandwiches, soups and salads to eat on the premises or to take home. Their delicious bread and rolls are delivered from a bakery in Philadelphia. They offer hard and soft ice cream in 45 flavors, including sugar free and fat free. They have Italian water ice, par- faits, milk shakes, ice cream cakes and ice cream pies. “We're the home of the Brain Freeze,” said DeBellis. “It's my own origi- nal recipe.” The restaurant offers catered ice cream parties for 75 or more people and hoagie parties for up to 50 people. Jim DeBellis is known around town as “Papa, the singing ice cream man.” He performs a 30-minute show per- sonalized to match each special event.
