The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) APPRISE Program, com- posed of volunteers who respond to seniors’ Medicare problems, will assist in the completion of the questionnaire application form. The purpose of the pro- gram is to assist seniors obtain free or for a small charge a 90 day supply of his/her prescrip- tion medicine. Both APPRISE Volunteers and Aging Staff will assist seniors in completing the questionnaire ap- plication. To be eligible for this program, applicants cannot be on PACE, PACE-NET, Medicaid or have health insurance with a pre- scription benefit. Applicant’s household income should be un- der $30,000. Applicants must supply documented proof of in- Q come (as Income Tax 1040, 1099's and any earned income) and a printout of prescriptions medi- cines from his/her pharmacy. After the applicant completes his/her application, the Area Agency on Aging will forward it to PACE who will then complete a specific application for each medication and forward that to the drug manufacturer. The drug manufacturer will contact Q the applicant's physician to veri- fy the information. Medicine will be sent to the physician's office or a selected pharmacy. APPRISE Volunteers will be available by appointment only at Hazleton Senior Center (459- 1441), Kingston Senior Center (287-1102), Nanticoke Senior Center (735-1670), Pittston Se- nior Center (655-5561), Charles T. Misericordia students to offer tax prep assistance Low income and elderly area residents can obtain free assis- tance in preparing their annual income tax returns from College Misericordia’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA ). Students and other volunteers from the college prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for those people meeting eligibility requirements. Common prob- lems for which VITA can provide advice include: trying to file a Schedule EIC (earned income credit), child tax credit, child and dependent care expenses credit, PA property tax and rent rebates, and Pennsylvania's spe- cial tax forgiveness form. Tax assistance sessions are scheduled for the following Sat- urdays between 9 a.m. and noon on the campus of College Miseri- cordia, Lake Street, Dallas: LJ March 17, 24 and 31; and April 7.
