Chief Miers will be pursuing yet an- other career in the private sector, but one with ties to law enforcement. “I will miss the many friends I have made over the years,” he said. “Law enforcement is a close-knit community. The groups get along. We work well together to support each other. I have enjoyed it and have seen the best and worst of society over the years. I guess I should write a book. I may have seen it all.” The possibility of regionalization of police departments gets Miers’s qualified approval. “If done right, it will work, and I support the effort,” he said. “It will improve service to the community and eliminate overlapping coverage in some areas and no coverage in other areas. For instance, we could have more detectives for criminal work and more juvenile offic- ers to assist our youth. We could save money on equipment. We could take existing joint manpower and reschedule our officers to reduce crime in high crime time frames and areas.” Chief Miers is married and has four daughters. He is looking forward to spending more time with his family. “I have spent a lot of time here on the job. It is my second home because as Chief you must be available constantly.” : The long-time law enforcement officer has this message for youth: “Don’t be part of the problem, be part of the solu- tion. Always maintain your integrity. Some youthful mistakes could follow you the rest of your life.” A subscription to The Dallas Post makes a thoughtful gift that will last all year long.
