John is a member of Boy Scout Troop 155 of Trucksville United Meth- odist Church. His Eagle Scout project was to clean. paint, orga- nize and build shelving units for a large basement storage area at St. Therese's Church in Shavertown. He has served as Troop Guide, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader and Se- nior Patrol Leader throughout his years with Troop 155. He has also earned several Uniform Awards. John has attended Boy Scout oo camp, camporees and Polar Bear Lo weekends at Camps Achahela, JOHN GILLIGAN Minsiand Goosepond, Moon Lake Park, Lackawanna State Park and Camp Lackawanna. He also at- tended Northeastern PA Boy Scout Council camping trips to Ottawa, Canada in 1996 and to Niagara Falls in 2000. He is scheduled to PEC hosting trail development workshop The Pennsylvaia Enviromental Council is hosting an evening work- shop to present information on management of municipal/non-profit liability regarding trail development, as well as information on the new handicap-accessible requirements for public recreational facilities. FEFC Holds Fall Celebration for Kids The Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Dallas held a Fall Celebration for Kids on Friday, Oct. 27. Over 90 children enjoyed a puppet show, illusionist, ventriloquist, cotton candy machine and much more. The "Treasure Island" theme was reinforced through the message of ventriloquist Susan Klein of Nanticoke. Mary Shenk of Dallas, event coordinator, was very pleased with the turnout. Even the parents enjoyed the evening as they shared refreshments in the "Parents' Cafe". When the children were asked what their favorite part of the night was, the answer was unanimous: "Cotton candy!" Justin King, 11, of Dallas; Amanda Touey, 11, of Dallas and Bruce Mosier, 10, of Hunlock Creek were all promoted. The students have been training for the last four and five years. Testing was conducted by a panel of Black Belts, including school owner/head instructor Gary R. Barnes; and 4th degree Black Belt Paul Molter (Barnes' instructor, who administered the final promotions) of American Kenpo Karate, Clarks Summit; and Steven Weber of Dallas, who last year became the first student at the school promoted to Black Belt. Also sitting on the session as an observer was Angela Wagner of Lehman, the first female Black Belt Murphy earns Eagle Scout status Robert Edward Murphy III. 15. a member of Boy Scout Troop 281 spnsored by the Dallas Methodist Church, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable from the Boy Scouts of America. The award ceremony took place at an Eagle Court of Honor on Nov. 12 at St. Therese's Church, Shavertown. For his Eagle project. Robert refurbishied the statuary of the Christmas Creche for St. Therese's Church. He organized the project design, the collection of materi- als, and supervised volunteers in the repair and painting of the statues and the rebuilding of the manger. Murphy, the son of Robert and Denise Murphy of Dallas, has been aScoutsince 1991, when he joined as a Tiger Cub. He continued as a member of Scout Pack 281 in which he earned the Catholic religous award, Parvuli Dei, in 1994 and the Cub Scouts’ highest award, the Arrow of Light, in 1996. In May 1996, Murphy joined Boy Scout Troop 281 and began his trail to Eagle. He achieved the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life. He has earned 47 merit badges. During his Scouting tenure, he has served ROBERT EDWARD MURPHY as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Den Chief, Scribe and Senior Patrol Leader. Robert has attended National Boy Scout High Adventure at Sea Base in Florida and Philmont Scout reservation in New Mexico. Robert is a sophmore at Dallas Senior High School. He is an honor student and a member of the swim team. He is an avid camper, backpacker and skier.
