Anniversary. Along with other events throughout the year, the church has invited special guest speakers to come and talk about their vision for the future of the church. Members of the Back ~ Mountain community are invited to hear the next of these events, a lecture by Dr. Gordon W. Lathrop, on Sunday, Nov. 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dr. Lathrop is Charles A. Shieren Professor of Liturgy and Chaplain at the Lutheran Theo- logical Seminary in Philadelphia. He is world-renowned as a lec- turer, writer and scholar in litur- gics and worship. His recent speaking tours have taken him to England, Iceland, Australia, Slovakia, France and Sweden for such well-known groups and events as the World Council of Churches Commission on Faith and Order, the Evangelical ' Lutheran Church in America's Hein-Fry Lectures. and the Lutheran World Federation. His recent publications include two books, Holy Things and Holy People, along with a host of as- sorted articles. A period for questions and discusssion will follow a break midway through the presentation. This event is free of charge, and a fellowship reception will follow. L-L "71 meeting to plan 30th reunion The Lake-Lehman class of '71 will hold a planning meeting for the upcoming 30th class reunion. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Joe's Grotto, Harveys Lake, beginning at 6 p.m. Any class member who would like to help plan this event should try to attend this meeting. Sisk clerics sixth ~ Brian Paul Sisk, Jr. is celebrat- ing his 6th birthday on Wednes- day, Nov. 15. Brian is the son of Brian and Cathy Sisk of Lake Silkworth. He is the grandson of Elmer and Mary Ann Jones of Wilkes-Barre, and the late James Sisk of Wilkes-Barre and the late Prestangelo of Port Blanchard. Brian has a sister, Emily, who is 8 years old. Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society artists hold exhibit Arists of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society, incuding award- winning painters Sue Hand and Doug Brown, will be holding their 8th Annual Members' Exhibit Nov. 11-24 at the Hazleton Art League, 225 East Broad St., Hazleton. Over 30 members will exhibit their most recent artworks. The landscapes are painted in the tra- dition of en plein air, a classical French term meaning "in the open air.” "Northeastern Pennsylvania is captured by the artist,” says Sue Hand, founder and chairperson of the Society. The paintings and drawings will represent a variety of media in- cluding oil, alkyd, watercolor, graphite, pastel and mixed me- dia. The exhibitors range in expe- rience from professsional artists to hobbyists and art students, but all are dedicated to the art of plein air painting. For more in- formation concerning the Penn- sylvania En Plein Air Society and its 8th Annual Members’ Exhibit, SCID staff members recognized for long and dedicated service Superintendent Ben Varner of State Correctional Institute at Dallas recognized Mr. Thomas Yackiel, Captain Michael Griego, Lieutenant Thomas Mushala for their many years of dedicated ser- vice to the citizens of Pennsylva- nia. Thomas Yackiel has served the Department of Corrections for 20 years, beginning in November of 1980 a correctional officer at SCI- Dallas. In August of 1985, he was temporarily assigned as a drug and alcohol counselor, and dur- ing November of 1985, he was assigned duties as a correctional counselor. In August of 1987 he was transferred to SCI-Frackville as a corrections counselor, where he remained until being trans- ferred back to SCI Dallas in Au- gust of 1993, where he has served in the capacity of unit manager since then. Captain Michael Griego, also with 20 years of service, began his career in 1980 at SCI-Dallas as a Correctional Officer 1. He worked as a housing unit officer until 1988. He then assisted in opening SCI-Retreat by trainin gnew cor- rectional officers. He worked as a Correctional Officer 2 until 1990, when he returned to SCI-Dallas and was promoted to Correctional Officer 3. In 1993 Griego became a Captain — Correctional Officer P» 4 — and currently serves as a > shift commander. Lieutenant Thomas Mushala is recognized for his 30 years of ser- vice. Prior to his work with the Department of Corrections, he served in the uniform section of the Secret Service in the White House in Washington, DC, under Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon; prior to that he served on the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. Lt.
