The Committee and the other enthusiastic, hard- working volunteers are to be con- gratulated on such a satisfying culmination of their efforts. A one-day Autumn Auction and Craft Show will be held Oct. 1. Call the library at 675-1182 for details or to become a vendor. Children’s library “Donuts and Discussion”, areading group com- posed this year of 9- to 12-year- olds, met regularly this summer to discuss books by Newberry Award-winning authors. Mem- bers of the group included Kevin Buckman, Katie Gilligan, Steve and Greg Heindel, Tom Herrick, Kristen Justice, Mallory and Jarod Kern, Kim Konicki, Sue Krogulski, Patrick Murray, Kevin Price, Lauren Yurko, Caroline Zielinski, and Lauren Zook. Their final meeting of the season included not only doughnuts and discus- sion, but brownies and cookies as well! As one season ends, another begins. Marilyn Rudolph an- nounces that registration for Fall Story Hours for toddlers and 3-5- year-olds will start on September 5. The programs will start during the first week of October. The Auction net tops '99 schedule will be announced later. Librarian's report On July 12 Martha Butler and Barbara Lemmond attended the Luzerne County Library System meeting. The System Board approved the hiring of Linda Sturgeon as Auto- mation System Coordinator. The following statistjcs for July were presented: total circulation, 8,904; books added, 184; new borrowers, 96; active borrowers, 13,019. Book discussion groups The first fall meeting of the Monday morning book discussion group will be held on September 25. The assigned book is Panama, a mys- tery by Eric Zencey. Pam Olivieri said that the Mon- day evening group gave five stars to the book they read most re- cently, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. She reported that those present “had the best dis- cussion they'd ever had because there were so many layers to the book”. Their next meeting will be on September 11 at 7 p.m., when The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant, will be discussed. New displays Anna Newell, a local school student, has loaned two collections to the library, one which she has labelled “Anna’s Smiles” — many items wearing a smile-y face. The other collection is of her many different varieties of pencils. Golf tournament A reminder . that the annual golf tournament to benefit the library will be held on Monday, October 16.
