POST PHOTO/SANDY PEOPLES New Media courses offered in October at Misericordia When College Misericordia re- ceived a Link-to-Learn grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education earlier this year, one major function of the grant was to help the College develop programs to meet employers’ needs for a workforce well prepared in com- puter technology applications. As a result, beginning in the fall se- mester, among the new programs available at Misericordia will be a series of certificate courses in New Media Development, e-Commerce, Web Design and Web Development. The programs are specifically de- signed for students who want to prepare for working in web-based commerce. The program is designed to en- able students who complete three introductory courses to achieve from one to four certificates by building on the competencies ac- quired in the previous New Media course work. Students who have] some of the skills required for the program can earn credit for that knowledge through the develop- ment of a portfolio that demon- strates that they met all of the required objectives of the course. The introductory skill set and all of the four certificates can be earned by successfully completing forty- two academic credits. In order to offer a student the! | highest level of flexibility in achiev- ing the certificates, every course in every certificate program will be offered on line, beginning in Octo- ber. Plans are also under way to develop a bachelor's degree pro- gram in New Media, according to Dr. Mary Glennon, RSM, vice presi- dent of academic affairs and Dean of the College.
