'Magic Awards Program’ rewards summer readers A total of about 60 children attended the Magic Awards Program Aug. 4, the final special event for participants in the Back Mountain Memorial Library's summer reading program, Readers 2000: Mas- ters of the Millennium. Follow- ing the presentation of the Magical Reading Program, awards were presented to all those who had completed their game cards, including Masters of the Millennium rulers and pencils. Approximately 162 readers, and 52 read-to-me children, had signed up for the program. Five children accomplished goals above and beyond the requirement of completing eight books — they completed 24, one for each half-hour of the game clock. The readers were Shamus Field, Natasha Field, Jacqueline Stefanowicz, Lauren Murgitroyde; and Marilyn Moriah Mizenko was a read-to- me participant. The children were given special awards for their achievement. Refresh- ments concluded the program. Readers who were familiar with the paper bookroom which wound (or slithered) its way almost all the way around the library — one shape was added for each book read — will be interested to learn that the total number of shapes was 946. An exact guess of the number of pieces of Laffy Taffy in the jar on the librarian’s desk — 137 — was made by Kyle Caffrey. ~ Marilyn Rudolph and Janet Bauman wish to thank all the parents who assisted in making the summer's reading program so successful, especially by encouraging their children to read and to complete the program. www.bsa.net/pa/t693.
