UN The Dallas Post Section 2 August 9, 2000 Sports ® @ Heffron, Saba honored at Shippensburg Shippensburg University PSAC Scholar-Athletes from the Back Mountain were: Erin Heffron of Dallas for soccer and Johnathan Saba of Dallas, for football. The PSAC includes all of the fourteen state-owned universities of the State System of Higher Education. Students who qualify for the award are those involved in a competitive intercollegiate varsity sport who have also managed to attain a grade point average of at least 3.25. ¢ @ Jobson golf tournament Sept. 9 The Paul D. Jobson Jr., Second Annual Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 9, at the Applewood Golf Course, Mt. Zion Rd., Harding. Proceeds are to benefit ALS Foundation and Paul Jobson dr. Family. Entree fee is $60 per player which includes cart and greens fees, food and beverages, a gift for all players, captain and crew format. The fee to sponsor a hole is $50. Awards will be given for championship, first and second flights, closest pin contests, and longest drive contest. For information call Scott Jobson at 655-4656. o @ Walter will wrestle at Wilkes 1] Recent Dallas High School graduate Thomas Walter has decided to continue his wrestling career at Wilkes University next fall. Walter wrestled at 189 pounds this season for the Mountaineers while weighing in at only 170 pounds. Despite being outweighed in most matches, he still managed to fashion an overall record of 17 wins and 14 losses. During the off-season he qualified for the Pennsylvania Tournament, where he placed third, earning a berth at the National Greco Roman Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. Walter was also a member of the Mountaineers football team. : Walter, who plans to pursue a degree in Elementary Education, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Walter, Dallas. Youth basketball signups Aug. 23 Dallas Youth Basketball will hold signups for its fall Boys’ League on Wed., Aug. 23 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Dallas Rec Center. Those entering grades 3-8 who reside within the Dallas School District are eligible. Sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights from Aug. 30-Oct. 18, at the middle school. Softball teams have big year Back Mountain softball teams placed high in state playoffs this year. The Big League and Minor League teams each finished second in the state, while the Major League team was third. In Big League action, Back Moun- tain opened with a 12-1 win over Oxford, then lost to eventual cham- pion Tri-Borough 4-1. After beating Blue Ridge 20-10, Back Mountain again met Tri-Borough, and fell 2-0 despite a strong complete game pitching effort by April Naugle. %; Bob Paley coached the Minor League all-star team. National wins Kubis championship Back Mountain National overcame a six-run deficit to defeat Plains 12-9 Friday in the championship game of the Kubis Memorial Tournament for 11-year-old Little League players. Jeff Clemente picked up the win in relief of Greg Harris, and Steven Cornia recorded a save. Mike Stolarick had a double and Mike Zaleskas and John Giampetro each had three hits.
