Boy Scout Troop 153 hatches six Eagles TRUCKSVILLE - Eagles don't usually travel together, so there is no word to describe this group but they are the current pride of Boy Scout Troop 155. of Trucksville. Six members of the troop have passed their official Board of Review since March. They are: Charles Stajewski, Jr., Daniel Piccillo, Michael Yenason, Peter Yurchision, Jr., John Gilligan and Peter Van Loon. They have many things in common — the most noteworthy is their leader, Scout- master Charles Stajewski, who led all of these six young men since they were Cub Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America has stringent requirements that Eagle Scout candidates must meet and only about 2 percent of all scouts make it. Each must earn a mini- mum of 21 merit badges, 12 of which are mandatory. These in- clude communications, family life, first aid, personal management, lifesaving and camping. There are over 100 merit badges, rang- ing from agribusiness to wood- carving, that scouts can choose from to meet the total require- ment. In addition, each candidate must perform a community ser- vice project that demonstrates his 7 ran ony Hilfiger leadership skills. The scout is responsible for initiating this project, planning, funding, staff- ing and completing it. Trucksville United Methodist Church, St. Francis Cabrini Church, St. Therese’s Church and Moon Lake State Park all benefited from these Eagle Scouts’ projects. The Boy Scouts mandate that all requirements be met before the candidate’s 18th birthday and most wait until they are close to that age. But all six of these new Eagle Scouts are 15-year-old freshmen at Dallas High School. Scouting is not all that these young men do. They are all in- volved in sports that range from baseball, basketball, and football to cross country, swimming and track. Peter Yurchision, an avid skier, has won medals at the Key- stone Games. Michael Yenason has been wrestling since the age of 5 and routinely achieves hon- ors with distinction for his aca- demic grades. Their extracurricular activities include student council, fresh- man class steering committee, PA Math League, Peer Tutors and NEIU Watershed Study. Their accomplishments don’t stop there. This summer John Gilligan will spend three weeks in Australia and New Zealand with the People-to-People Student Ambassador program. These young men are also ac- tive with their churches. They are members of the youth groups and help with the Back Mountain Council of Churches. Danny Piccillo is a lector at St. Francis Cabrini Church in Carverton. Chuck Stajewski, who was the first to complete his requirements, did so while playing three sports. He also won the Student of the Month Award for Citizenship this fall. His parents, Charlie and Ann Marie, spent countless hours to foster their original troop. For years the Cub Scouts met at their Dallas residence and the scouts’ other family members were al- ways welcome to join in the activi- ties. Although Charlie has just seen six of his Cub Scout den rise to the rank of Eagle it won't stop there. Several others are well on their way and will complete their requirements in the very near fu- ture. Library Auction Corner Hi-tech binoculars, Dallas Photo “Fighting for Life," by Gov.
