The dance tradition fosters a spirit of helpfulness towards newcomers, and organizers stress that dancers may come without prior experience or a partner. All of the contra dances are taught and called, and newcomers are welcomed every month. The caller for the dance will be Bruce Young. He is a part of the “Family Band,” an unusual collection of talent consisting of three fathers and their teen-aged children sharing diverse musical interests and performing together. They have been playing together as a seven piece unit since 1996. The Chicory house is an all-volunteer non-profit coffeehouse sponsoring folk music and dance in the Wyoming Valley. Admission to the dance is $6 for adults and $3 for children, $15 for families. Dancers are asked to bring a snack to share at intermission and should wear light weight clothing. Soft soled, non-marking shoes are requested to help preserve the wood dance floor. For information call 570-333- 4007, or visit the Chicoryhouse.org on the web. RICHARD J. KATCHKO Richard J.
