Se he The Dallas Post =~ Section 2 March 22, 2000 ports DYB girls tourney crowns 4 champions 8th graders fight back to claim title, visitors wear 5, 6, 7 crowns Dallas Youth Basketball 8th grade girls, 1998 6th grade champions and 1999 7th grade champions, brought in Cumberland Valley from Harrisburg to compete in 2000 in the 8th grade division. Both teams dominated their brackets to meet in the final game of the winners’ bracket. Cumberland Valley defeated DYB 34- 32 Saturday in double overtime to drop DYB to the losers’ bracket. That meant DYB would have to play Abington Heights, then defeat Cumberland Valley two times toreign as three-time champions. Dallas started off by jumping all over Abington Heights 41-27, then beat Cumberland Valley 26-24 to set up a final game with for the championship, which Dallas Youth Basketball went on to win 32-21. More than 1,500 people came through the doors of Penn State Lehman campus to watch 32 teams partici- pate in a double elimination tournament with teams from Dallas, vid | 8 AF Wilkes-Barre, Wyoming Valley West, Nanticoke, Harrisburg, Berwick, Lehman, Wallenpaupack, Gate of Heaven, Hazleton, Mountain Top, Newport Township, Wyoming Area Catholic and separate divisions - 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade - having eight teams in each division. First round play started March 16, and March Regis Academy. With four 17, continued March 18, with final rounds Sunday, March 19. Trophies were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams and individuals. There were also five all- stars from each division and then the most valuable player of each division. In the 5th grade division, Newport Township beat Dallas Youth Basketball 30-13 to claim the title. Gate of Heaven #1 team took third place honors.
