8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, February 16, 2000 Stadium _ (continued from page 1) The updated seating arrange- ment also includes plans to move bleachers farther from the play- “ing surface and to make them handicap accessible. “We moved the bleachers back about 15 feet to allow room for conversion to a multi-purpose field in the future,” said Flynn. “Right now the plan is to keep the cinder track surface in place but if you decide at some point to change that it can be done.” Griffiths said the ballpark esti- mate on the cost of the renova- tions is about $2 million. A de- tailed cost estimate will be pre- sented to the board March 13. “As it stands right now, we are includ- ing a field house in the plans,” said Griffiths. “If during the bid- ding process, we find out the project is going to cost signifi- cantly more than we've estimated the field house may be excluded.” The district has approximately S1 million left over from the Wyecallis construction and it plans to use the money for this newest project. District unveils Internet web site The school board viewed a pre- sentation by Dr. Michael Speziale, assistant superintendent, show- casing the district's new website. The high-tech resource includes brief biographies of faculty, staff and administrators along with information and statistics about each of the district's four schools. An electronic bulletin board serves as a virtually instant source of news regarding weather delays or cancellations. Changes to the school calendar or athletic sched- ules can also be posted by autho- rized personnel. Links to other websites, such as those offering parenting advice or help with school work will even- tually be included as well. “There are some issues which have to be worked out regarding security but there is certainly a lot which can be added,” said Speziale. The Dallas website, which is expected to be up and running next week, can be accessed at www.dallassd.com. The field house may be dropped if too expensive. Building (continued from page 1) least through the busy spring building season. “We hope to bid the job in early spring and have it completed by the summer,” said Bagley. At least two residential com- munities now being developed may be affected by the moratorium. “A permit has been issued for one home in the Rolling Meadows de- velopment as of right now,” said Repotski. “DAMA gave them a sew- age permit for that one home but as for the other properties in that development, and those in an- other development still being dis- cussed, permits haven't been is- sued.” Ray Peeler, who is developing the Rolling Meadows project, said he is optimistic the planning commission’s restrictions will not affect construction. “At this point, I don’t think it will be a problem for us,” he said. “It is my under- standing that our entire develop- ment has been approved. You don't get a building permit until you decide to go ahead and build, but the way I understood it was that we did receive approval for all of the 48 lots we have available.” Township planners hope ac- tions taken now will prevent prob- lems like this one in the future. “There has been some discussion about the need to periodically re- view and update our own long- range plan for the township,” said Dr. Paul Niezgoda, who serves as a member of the planning com- mission. “There is a real need to look at zoning, water, sewer, and quality of life issues. We want to approve and support development that is going to enable residents to live in a pleasant and safe place to live 5, 10, 15 or 50 years down the road.” Pizza, Pasta, N.Y. Monitoring (continued from page 1) way it stands right now 10 homes have had carbon filters installed; three of those are clean and seven show low levels of contaminant.” Whether or not in-home filters will be replaced by newly drilled wells remains unclear. “We're looking at where the pollution is migrating any drilling of new wells is a function of that movement,” said Brewer. “I can’t tell you I have gotten the impression new wells are planned at this point, but the migration will be the deciding fac- tor. We are certainly going to do everything necessary to make sure those affected have clean drink- ing water.” Sampling of wells near the American Asphalt sandstone quarry which have been tainted by trichloroethane (TCA) will con- tinue as well. “We plan to do some more testing in that area this week,” said Carmon. This new series of water re- ports should provide hydrogeologists with a better pic- ture of the level and extent of TCA contamination. “We had a meet- ing with American Asphalt a few days ago and we reiterated the strong need to push ahead with the site characterization already “We are still in the evaluation stage at this point.” Mark Carmon = _ Department of Environmental Protection under way,” said Carmon. “Ameri- can Asphalt is doing some re- sampling of their own wells on site as well as some of the private wells located nearby and together with our tests we hope to pinpoint the source of the contamination so that we can begin the cleanup process.” A public information session with representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Health is being organized to help addressresidents’ concerns about TCA and MTBE exposure. “We sent our reports to the depart- ment of health and they are re- viewing all the data we've pro- vided,” said Carmon. “There will be a meeting sometime in the next week to 10 days to go over that — information and to share it with everyone in Jackson Township.” BIRTHS MERCY: ZALEPPA, William and Patricia, Dallas, a daughter, Jan. 27, 2000.
