The Dallas Township High School Class of 1940 gathered in their caps and gowns for a group picture outside the school. for a 60th anniversary celebra- tion include extending invitations to those who graduated from Dal- las Borough and Kingston Town- ship high schools in the same year. “We've been reduced now because of age and what have you,” said O’Boyle. “So some of us thought it would be nice to have one big party with all of the 1940 graduates from all three schools. It’s just a chance to reminisce and catch up with some of the people growing up in the Back Mountain at the same time.” Jane Davis was a member of the Dallas Township class of 1940 and her husband is a Kingston Township High School alumnus from the same year. “Our class was always a pretty close-knit group,” she said. “Many of us went through school from first grade right on up through 12th together. Most of my friends from the neighborhood went to Kingston Township so I was always run- ning around with both groups.” Athletic competitions fostered rivalries among the neighboring high schools. “I remember there being a bit of animosity, espe- cially between Dallas Township and Dallas Borough because we were so close to one another,” said O’'Boyle. “I played football and Dallas Borough only had a bas- ketball team. They didn’t have a lot of students you see, sol didn’t experience any kind of rivalry first- hand but I remember some of the basketball games were pretty ex- citing.” 20!
