Lake-I.ehman Head Start Center earns accreditation Lynn Evans Biga, Executive Di- rector of Luzerne County Head Start, Inc. recently announced Head Start classrooms in the Lake- Lehman School District applied for and received accreditation by the National Association for the Edu- cation of Young Children (NAEYC). This prestigious recognition of pro- grams which provide high quality early childhood care has been achieved by only 7% of early child- hood programs nationwide. The application for accredita- tion is a voluntary process involv- ing rigorous review to certify that classrooms meet national stan- dards of excellence. Each class- outside reviewers. All of this infor- mation was then independently evaluated by a team of national experts who granted the accredi- tation. : The Lake-Lehman Center is cur- rently conducting recruitment of three and four year old children for the school year beginning Septem- ber 2000. Families need to meet age eligibility and income guide- lines to qualify for this federally funded preschool program.
