Lehman-Jackson students learn Reading is Fundamental The Lehman-Jackson PTA re- cently sponsored its first free book distribution of the year through its RIF program. RIF, which stands for Reading Is Fundamental, is the nation’s oldest and largest non- profit literacy organization serving children. Throughout the week, PTA mem- bers volunteered their time to read and encourage the children to “Gobble Up A Good Book” in keep- ing with the Thanksgiving theme of the book distribution. Volun- teers helped distribute more than 600 books for all students at the elementary school. This program headed by PTA Chairperson Cheryl Summa, is geared towards showing students that reading. It encourages children to become life- long readers by building self-es- teem and involving the most im- portant people in their lives - par- ents, teachers and other children in the learning process.
