BEARSAIA = * *x OBITUARIES CECIL SUTTON Cecil L.. Sutton Sr., 79, of Franklin Street in Dallas, died Nov. 16, 1999, at Lakeside Nurs- ing Center at Harveys Lake. Born in the Idetown section of Dallas Township, he was the son of the late Fred and Highley Ide Sutton. He attended Lehman Township schools and was a resident of Dallas for the past 45 years. Before retiring, he was em- ployed as an equipment operator by J.B. Corgan Construction Co., Kingston. He also operated a concession stand at Ricketts Glen State Park. He was a member of the Dallas United Methodist Church, George M. Dallas Lodge 531 F&AM. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Krieger Sutton; son, Richard; sister, Arlene Hoover. Surviving are his sons, Cecil, Jr., Sweet Valley; Calvin, Dallas; Keith, Mansfield; William, Shav- ertown; Gerald, Abbeyville, SC; Ronald, Dallas; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Snyder, Dallas. ALLEN BRACE Allen K. Brace, 79, aresident of Kunkle for 56 years, died Nov. 19, 1999, in Community Hospice at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born May 22, 1920, in Kunkle, he was a son of the late William M. and Ella F. (Kunkle) Brace. He graduated from the Dallas school system. Betore retiring in 1983, he was employed by Dana Sickler of Carverton, Culp Brothers of Kingston and Dugan & Marcon, Kingston. He was a member of the Kunkle United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and secretary for the Ad- ministrative Board, and was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Kunkle Volun- teer Fire Co. Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Sylvia Space, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage June 15; sons, Allen R., St. Mary's; Donald L., Kunkle and Dale F., Laurys Station; daughter Wendy L. Crispell, Buckwheat Hollow; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles, Factoryville; and Will- iam, Kunkle; sister, Carolyn Gardiner, Holiday, FL; several nieces and nephews. Civil War Round Table visits Gettysburg battlefields Recently 11 Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table members and friends visited the Gettysburg battlefield. This is the second time CWRT members participated in the restoratioon program. In the fall of 1998, the project in- cluded the scraping and p[ainting of the picket fence around the Weikert house. The project this fall included the painting of the wrought iron fence around a battlefield monument and the Sherfy house located on the Emmitsburg Pike. The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table comprised of 75 members from the surrounding area have made an annual com- mitment to participate in their volunteer program. In addition to other volunteer groups, this will help support the National Park Service in restoring and main- taining the historical battlefield. The State of Pennsylvania has 140 monuments commemorating the heroic deeds of men from Penn- sylvania during the three day struggle on July 1-3, 1863. The Round Table schedules meeting every month on the third Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Daddow- Isaac American Legion building located on route 415 in Dallas, across from Pickett’s Charge Res- taurant. This program consists of a volunteer training course de- signed to provide experienced home gardeners with the infor- mation and skills necessary to share their experience and knowl- edge with others. Weekly classes will be held from 1-4 p.m.; begin- ning February 15 and ending April 18. In exchange for 30 hours of indoor instuction, candidates must agree to donate 50 hours of volunteer service to Penn State Cooperativ e Extension. Volun- teer activities might include con- ducting garden clinics, demon- stration gardens, answering home horticulture calls in our office, educational exhibits at various shows or fairs, working with 4-H youth and the list goes on.
