It began in 1621, when William Bradford, governor of the Plymouth colony, appointed a day for feasting and thanksgiving after the Pilgrims survived their first harsh New England winter. The holiday reminds us to this day that we share the legacy of those first settlers, and that we should never forget how fortunate we are. As you gather with family and friends, you might want to recall our good fortune, beginning that fall 368 years ago and continuing to this day. Together, we have become a great nation and for that we can all be thankful. American Red Cross Give blood The Back Mountain communities will sponsor a blood drive the day after Thanksgiving, to make it easy for you to be a “holiday hero” to someone who needs blood. Blood supplies are still at very low levels, and Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday weekend. Highway and other accidents have the potential to wipe out our currently low supplies. What are you thankful for this year? If good health is one of your blessings, please share it with those less fortunate. The need for blood knows no age limits, no social deference, no regard for race or creed and Thanksgiving Blood Drive Friday, Nov. 26 1p.m.-6 p.m. Gate of Heaven Church never takes a holiday. If you are 17 or older and weigh at least 105 Ib., you can donate blood. Most common prescriptions are acceptable and there is no upper age limit. If you have questions, please call the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross at 823-7161, ext. 34. This message sponsored by the following community-mined businesses and individuals.
