| } { i } § } i a TRAE A A ——— 12 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 10, 1999 LL schedules math readiness program for preschoolers The second installment of Lake- Lehman’s Early Childhood/Pre- school Program is scheduled for November 16, 17, and 18, and will feature “Math Readiness: Activi- ties and Strategies for Parents and Children.” Lake-Lehman School District teaching staffwill present the Math Readiness program which will in- clude basic math readiness skills to prepare 4-year olds for a suc- cessful school career. The parents will prepare one activity to use with their child at home. Separate activities including storytime, games, crafts and snacks are scheduled for the children at each elementary school. The schedule is as follows: Ross - Nov. 16, 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Lake-Noxen - Nov. 17, 9 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. Lehman-Jackson - Nov. 18, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Please register for this second presentation by calling the neigh- boring elementary school office and letting us know how many adults and children will be attending. Dallas HS principal honored Frank Galicki, principal of Dal- las High School, has recently com- pleted a year as TT president of the 2,700 member PA Association of Secondary School Princi- pals. Galicki was honored by his peers at the association's state conference held in Reading last week. Citing his work in fostering safe schools and professional develop- ment for school-building admin- istrators, Galicki was presented a FRANK GALICKI special award for his service and contributions. During his tenure as president of the organization, which represents secondary school building administrators, Galicki spearheaded the efforts statewide for safe schools includ- ing an emergency response team for Pennsylvania and other safe school strategies. He also pro- moted and supported the association's efforts to provide continuous professional develop- ment activities for school-build- ing administrators. Galicki is a graduate of Wilkes College and inductee in the school’s Sports Hall of Fame. Wolfe earns scholarship Benjamin Wolfe is a recent recipient of the Keystone/Garden State Chapter Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association $1,000 College Scholarship. Ben graduated 5th in a class of 167 from Lake-Lehman High School. He is attending Cornell University’s School of Natural Resources/Biology. Benjamin is the son of Ruth LaBar Wolfe and ~ the late Bing Wolfe, and grandson of Floyd and Phyliss Wolfe. Shanaberger earns BMBPA scholaship Danielle Shanaberger, Dallas, is the recipient of the Back Mountain Business and Professional Association Scholarship offered through Penn State Wilkes-Barre for the 1999-2000 a academic year. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from the Back Mountain area who is enrolled in the business curriculum at the campus in Lehman. Danielle recently had the opportunity to meet and thank Thomas R. Robinson, president of the BMBPA during a dinner at Appletree Terrace honoring scholarship recipients and their benefactors. PSU alumni plan tailgate party The Alumni Society of Penn State Wilkes-Barre will hold a TV Tail- gate Party Sunday, Nov. 20 to cheer on the Nittany Lions in the PSU vs. Michigan State game. Misericordia nurses host blood drive The Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) at College Misericordia in conjunction with the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will be sponsoring a blood drive on Monday, Nov. 15. The drive will be held on campus in the Merrick Building. Collection hours will be from 11 - 5 p.m. The drive is open to the public and walk-ins will be welcomed. Homeschool support group forming A new homeschooling support group is forming in the Back Moun- tain area. If you are presently homeschooling or thinking about homeschooling we welcome you to our new group. We are a group that embraces all homeschoolers regardless of homeschooling styles or religious faiths. We will meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Our first meeting will be November 16. Wagner is pleased to announce that the 1999 Dallas Yearbooks have been delivered to the school and are available to those students who placed erders earlier this year. Alumni may pick up their yearbooks from 9 a.m.-3 p.m daily in the high school main office. Receipts are helpful, but not necessary. Additionally, a limited number of extra copies are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who did not order earlier. These extra copies go quickly and alumni are encouraged to visit the school as soon as possible. Payment is due in full upon receipt of the book.
