Youth are among Luzerne County 4-H horse club members who will be proceeding to the State 4-H Horse Show in Harrisburg, October 8-10. In order to be eligible for the State Show, these members had to compete and place in the top ranking at both the County and District elimination shows. Terri Peiffer, Janelle Perlis and Melissa DeCesaris scored for Lehman in the first half, with Perlis and Carrie Thorne add- ing one each in the second. Alyson Bevan had four assists, Rachel Kasper had the other. Janel Janiczek recorded four saves. Dallas 4, GAR 0 Brittany Bartolini scored the first two Dallas goals, and Molly Savage and Daisy Neiman added one apiece, as the Lady Mounts recorded 38 shots on goal while holding GAR to just one. Lehman 2, Dallas 1 Dallas took a 1-0 lead into halftime of the game between the Back Mountain schools played at Dallas Sept. 22, but the Knights added two goals in the first five minutes of the second half to defeat the Mountaineers. Brittany Bartolini opened the scoring in the first half off an assist from Rachel Kukosky. Eleven seconds in the second half, league superstar Janelle Perlis put the ball in the net to tie the game at one. Then Rachel Kasper scored four and a half minutes into the half to provide the final margin of victory. Goal- keepers Janel Janiczek and Melonie Sappe each played well in net. Lehman 2, Wyoming Valley West 1 Lake-Lehman rallied from another 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Spartans Sept. 24. Allison Bevan scored in the second half to knot the score at one. Kate Britt then scored later on in the second half to put Lehman in the lead. The goalkeeping and defensive play of the Knights kept the Spartans off the scoreboard in the second half. Dallas 5, Montrose 0 Goalie Melonie Sappe made five saves and recorded another shutout in a win over Montrose. Senior Jennifer Noon tallied four goals in the contest. The fifth goal was added by captain Sherri Kuderka. SOCCER Dallas 4, Meyers 0 Ryan Love scored the first goal only eight minutes into the match, and that was all the Mounts needed. Ricky Branco scored twice and Andrew George chipped in one to keep Dallas unbeaten. The Mounts had 32 shots, and held the Mohawks to four, all stopped by Nate Hoffman. Lehman 1, Abington 0 The Black Knights held off a game Comets crew Monday at Clarks Summit. Brian McMahon scored the only goal with a minute left in the first half, off a Brian Noler assist. Russ Mosier stopped seven Comets shots. Dallas 2, Crestwood 0 After a scoreless first half, Dallas scored two goals in the second half to escape with a home win over Crestwood. Sopho- more Ryan Love scored the first goal of the game in the second half before Vito Recchia added a goal later in the half. Mountaineer goalie Nathan Hoffman re- corded another shutout in net as Dallas remained undefeated and alone in first place in the standings. See ROUNDUP, pg 10 2 i Hi KniGHTS' DAY... Two quick goals to open the second half gave Lake-Lehman the unofficial Back Mountain "Old Stick" crown last week. Dallas and Lehman entered the game with one loss each. Dallas took an early lead on a goal by Brittany Bartolini, but Janelle Perlis answered only 11 seconds into the second half. Rachel Kasper scored the game winner a few minutes later. Te Sting wins U-11 championship Back Mountain “Sting” recently won the U-11 Girls Division of the Luzerne County Cup Invitational Soccer Tournament. They went undefeated and scored a 4-0 victory in the championship game. PPK competition Oct. 2 in Kingston Twp. Kingston Township Recreations annual Punt, Pass and Kick Competition will take place on Saturday, October 2, at East Center Street Park. The competition is open to all children residing in Kingston Township between the ages of 7 and 13. Proof of residency required. Registration and warm-up will begin at 9:30 a.m. Rain date October 9. SPORTS SHORTS in L-L Football Club meets Sept. 30 The Lake-Lehman Football Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 30 at the Grotto Pizza, Harveys Lake at 7:30 p.m. After the meeting the game film from the Nanticoke game will be shown. All parents of football players and cheerleaders are asked to attend. Field Hockey Parents to meet Thursday The Lake-Lehman Field Hockey Parents are holding a meeting at the Senior High School on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. DHS Soccer Club craft fair Oct. 3 The Dallas High School Soccer Club is sponsoring the annual Fall Craft Show on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Dallas Senior High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 vendors from Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be represented selling various crafts including semi-precious gemstone jewelry, needlework, candles, ceramics, potpourri, quilts, stenciled lamp shades, woodcrafts, wreaths, handmade dolls and homemade candy. Soccer Club members will be selling lunch and baked goods throughout the day. Vendor space is still available. Call Blanche at 696-3578. Orienteering at Frances Slocum The Pocono Orienteering Club (POC) will hold its October meet jointly with the Sierra Club on Saturay, October 2, at Frances Slocum State Park. Participants can register and start any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The entry fee is $5 per map and small groups such as families can use one map. Compasses can be rented for 50¢. Instruction is available at all times. Four different courses of varying skill level will be available. Events are held regardless of weather, so proper clothing and footwear are recommended. In orienteering, participants used a detailed five-color map and a compass to locate control locations in the park. Recreational and competitive categories are available.
