Siroky, 50, of LaSalle Avenue in Shavertown died Tues- day July 6 in the emergency room at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after being stricken ill at his home. Born June 5, 1949 in Hazleton, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Flessati) Siroky. He resided in Shavertown for 23 years and formerly resided in Freeland. He attended the former St. Mary's parochial school in Freeland and was a 1967 gradu- ate of the former Freeland High School. He graduated from Penn State University in 1971 with a bachelor of science degree in edu- cation and social studies. He has been employed for the past 25 years as a disability claims adjuster with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in Wilkes- Barre. He had previously taught social studies in the Newtown School District. He attended St. John Lutheran "Church on. State Street in Nanticoke. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Siroky. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife of 23 years, the former Christine Diekhaus; a sister, Frances Hollednak, Freeland; two nieces and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. LAWRENCE SANDO Lawrence T. “Larry” Sando Sr., 68, of Lehman Township, Lake Silkworth, RR2, Hunlock Creek, died July 8 at Wilkes-Barre Gen- eral Hospital. Born October 27, 1930 in Nanticoke, he was the son of T.A. and Alvira (Biscontini) Sando of Nanticoke. He was employed by Biscontini Coal Co. as a heavy equipment operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a mem- ber of the American Legion Post in Nanticoke. He attended Roaring Brook Baptist Church and was a mem- ber of the Italian Club of Nanticoke and the ABATE (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Towards Education) mo- torcycle club. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, the former Doris Rosengrant; daughter, Kim- berly Lamb, Laflin; sons, Robert, Philadelphia, Nicholas, Nanticoke, and Lawrence Jr., Hanover Town- ship; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were July 12 from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home, Inc., Hunlock Creek. Sheresided in Lehman the past 36 years and was employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Mercy Center in Dallas. Surviving are her daughters, Dolores Brennan, Shavertown, Janet Dosormo, Lehman, broth- ers, Anthony Carangelo, Snellville, GA, Eugene Carangelo, Cherry Hill, NJ, Albert Carangelo, Hammonton, NJ, and four grand- children. : The funeral was July 13 at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at the Mercy Center. ELEANOR GIACOMO Eleanor R. Giacomo of Dallas died Saturday, July 3 in Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. Born in Luzerne, she was a daughter of the late Bernaid and Mae (Grozalis) Smith. She was a member of the Sa- cred Heart Church in Luzerne. Prior toherretirement, she was employed by Westinghouse of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Luvinsky. Surviving are her husband, Raymond; a son, Louis James, Rochester, NY; a daughter, Kim- berly Riley, Swoyersville; a sister, Marilyn Lupinski, Phoenix, AZ; and four grandchildren. HARRIET DURBIN Harriet “Hal” Hays Durbin died July 10 at the home of her daugh- ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glassner in Shavertown. Born June 26, 1902 in Mt. Pleasant Township in Westmoreland County, she was the daughter of the late Jess M. and Mary Belle Hoyman Hays. She graduated from St. Xavier's Academy and attended Allegheny College. She taught third and fourth grade at the Mammoth School in Mammoth. She married Willard N. Durbin in 1924 and resided in Plymouth for seven years before moving to Shavertown in 1935. She was a member of the Shav- ertown United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Keller Class and Ruth Circle of the parish and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Mary Lou Bucan. Surviving, in addition to her daughter, Anna Mae Glassner, are her son, William H. Durbin, Michi- gan and Arkansas, sister, Ann Stairs, Acme, PA, seven grand- children, and 11 great-grandchil- dren. A memorial service was held July 13 at the Shavertown United Methodist Church. Interment was in Fern Knoll Cemetery in Dallas. Memorial donations may be made to the Ruth Circle of Shav- ertown United Methodist Church or to Hospice Community Care in Kingston. VIOLA SCOBLE Viola E. Scoble, 95, formerly of Carverton died Tuesday, July 6 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. Born in Wyoming, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Tofila (Novicki) Sobocinski. She resided most of her life in Carverton before moving to Beachwood, NJ in 1975. She was employed as a framer by Natona Mills in Dallas for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Is- land Heights, NJ and a former member of Carverton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Scoble, Sr. Surviving are her daughters, Audrey S. House, Flourtown; and Mariono S. Siglin, Beachwood, NJ; son, John T., Jr. Prescott, AZ; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grand- children and four great-great- grandchildren. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine Thompson. She moved to Lehman in 1970 where she lived until 1983, when she became a guest at the Mead- ows.
