Penn State Wilkes-Barre sets open house for July 20, 22 Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host it’s annual Spend a Summer Day or Evening Open Houses on Tuesday, July 20 starting at noon and Thursday evening, July 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Technology on the campus in Lehman. Penn State's new Information Sciences and Technology (IST) degree and certificate programs will be featured, along with other academic programs, admissions, athletics, clubs and organizations and academic support services. Information will be available on Penn State’s tuition costs; schol- arships and other forms of finan- cial aid. The first two years of most of the University’s 160+ de- gree programs can be completed _ at the Wilkes-Barre campus. In addition to high school jun- iors, seniors and their parents, adults interested in beginning higher education or returning to college on a full or part-time basis are invited to attend. The new Information Sciences Velikis & Nutche awarded scholarships The Dallas Area Federated Women’s Club recently awarded book scholarships to Vanessa Velikis and Jeffrey Nutche. Vanessa, daughter of Debra Velikis, Dallas, plans to attend Wilkes University - and major in pre-med. Jeffrey, son of John and Susan Nutche, Shavertown, plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh where he will major in biology. Both are graduating seniors of Dallas High School. The Wilkes-Barre campus options within this degree are soft- ware, networking, telecommuni- cations, data/information, and a baccalaureate option thatwill pro- vide a smooth transition into the four-year degree planned for 2001. An individualized option is also available and degrees may be pur- sued on a full or part-time basis. New scholarships offered to high school students at PSU A new scholarship program re- cently announced by Dr. Mary Hines, campus executive officer at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, will allow high school juniors and se- niors to take college courses for a fraction of the actual tuition costs. Students showing academic promise can take a maximum of three courses at Penn State Wilkes-Barre beginning this fall. Course schedules featuring Eco- nomics, History, Math, Meteorol- ogy, Sociology, Spanish, German, English, Theatre, Nutrition, Psy- 18612. . Cal chology, Science and Information Sciences & Technology are being planned. Starting this fall, qualified high school juniors and seniors may take one course per semester at half tuition.
