Tigers 8, Orioles 7 Justin Orlandini led the Tigers with 2 hits while Adam King and Dave Shultz combined to strike out 10 Oriole batters. For the O’s, Tim Crossin struck out 6 and Ben Rother picked up 2 hits. Giants 7 - Pirates 4 Winning pitcher was Dave Harding. Eric Samanas had 2 doubles and a single, Dave Harding 2 doubles with Ryan Harvey chipping in with 2 singles. For the Pirates Alan Sheridan had 2 doubles. Giants 12 - Rangers 11 Eric Samanas picked up the mound win. Ryan Harvey, Samanas, David Harding, Eric Domzalski and Kyle Mahle all had multiple hits for the Giants. Domazalski made a fine defensive play, catching a ball on the warn- ing track that was hit by Kenny Chamberlin. Chamberlin had 3 hits, Ryan Marascio and John Durr had clutch offensive hits for the Rangers. Astros 8 - Giants 6 Winning pitcher was Eric Kurello. Matt Lawler and Scott Carter each had a double for the Astros. Eric Samanas belted a 2 run homer in the sixth inning while Eric Domzalski had 10 strikouts for the Giants. SOFTBALL White Sox 10, Phillies 0 Sheree Horvath dominated the Phillies, pitching a no-hitter while striking out 11. Lauren Pyskoty powered the White Sox attack, going 3 for 3. Katie Birch made a superb catch to preserve the no- hitter. Dodgers 16, Red Sox 15 Sara Brown was the winning pitcher for the Dodgers. White Sox 4, Harvey's Lake 2 Sheree Horvath tossed her 2nd no-hitter of the week for the White Sox, striking out 13 batters. Lauren Pyskoty supported Horvath'’s efforts with 2 hits and several fine defensive plays. JUNIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Patco Services 13, Back Mountain Braves 5 Chris Katyl went 3 for 4 with a double and Nick Grieves homered and collected. 3. RBIs for ‘the Braves. Bob Horlacher A 18, Back Mountain Braves 8 For the Braves, Jonathan Wood went 2 for 4 with a double while Nick Grieves went 2 for 3 and Nate Yoh and Marty Musto each went 2 for 2. Wood struck out 6 in a losing cause. For Horlacher, Racoski struck out 6 in picking up the victory. Strohl had 3 hits while Simonson and Layaou had 2. One of Simonson’s safeties was a double. St. Therese's/Brennan tourney June 18 A new 1999 Nissan, donated by Automobile City will be awarded to the first golfer to make a hole-in-one on a selected hole during the 7th Annual St. Therese's/Joe Brennan Memorial Golf Tournament to be held on Friday, June 18. The Captain & Crew tourney will be held at Four Seasons Golf Course in Exeter and features a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams in men’s, women’s and mixed flights. SK Walk/Run added to Hospice 100 If you have always wanted to ~ participate in the Annual Hospice Hundred Ride for Dignity, but don't ride a bicycle, there is great news for you this year. And, if you could not participate because the Hospice Hundred was always on a Sunday, there is more great news. A 5K walk and 5K run have been added to the 6th annual event, which will be held Satur- day, July 17, beginning at Dallas High School to benefit Hospice St. John, a program of Lutheran Ser- vices Northeast. The major sponsor for this year's event is Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. The bicycle ride offers a 100K, 50K or 20K course through the Back Mountain. Theride, run and walk have full support from ham radio operators, road marshals, support wagons and aid stations. “All proceeds from the event will benefit Hospice St. John, which cares for more than 140 termi- nally ill patients and their fami- lies every day. The Hospice Hun- dred has raised more than $235,000 over the past five years. Celebrating 20 years of service, Hospice St. John now serves a 16- county area, supported by offices in greater Hazleton, Pittston, Lords Valley, Allentown and Berks County. Hospice St. John is among the largest hospices in Pennsylvania and is one of the few hospice-only programs. The registration fee for the bike ride is $35, for the 5K run is $10 and for the 5K walk is $10 until July 15. Add $5 for on-site regis- tration. The registration fee for all events is $35 per person until July 15. On site registration will be $50. Riders, runners and walkers are encouraged to raise $75 in pledges. Participants are encouraged to form a team from the same com- pany or organization to partici- pate and compete for prizes in the PNC Bank Corporate Challenge. Blues finish 2nd in New Jersey The Back Mountain Blues U-11 Boys travel soccer team finished second in the top flight of the “Clash of the Cleats” Memorial Day soccer tournament in Montclair, NJ. ‘The Blues were aided by the addition of four guest players from the Montclair Eagles U-11 Boys team. The Blues finished with a 3-1 record; defeating Rockaway Rebels 6-0., North Bergen Little Devils 3-2 and Montclair Warriors 5-1 before losing in the final 3-1 to Centennials United.
