Each summer, the farm hires 18 or more seasonal workers. The farm buys equipment and supplies locally. Neighbors are able to purchase fresh grown fruit. “Otherwise you take dollars out of the area,” says Brace. In addition, the Braces constantly renew their fruit trees. “We plant 1,000 trees a year,” Brace says. A tree needs five to seven years to start bearing fruit, and many have limited lifespan.
