Anthony Kapolka, III, assistant pro- fessor of math and computer science at Wilkes Univer- sity, from Dal- las, was recently inducted into the school’s Chapter of Sigma Xi, an in- ternational honor society of sci- ence and engineering. At a receptiojn held in the fac- ulty lounge of Fenner Hall, Dr. Louise M. Berard, professor of math and computer science and president of the Wilkes chapter, presented Kapolka with his mem- bership certificate. Membership in Sigma Xi is by invitation, and is conferred on individuals who have demonstrate noteworthy achievements in re- search. Kapolka's doctural thesis corieerned user-adaptive informa- tion retrieval. During the past few years he has supervised several résearch projects with students, whe have presented their findings at’'professional conferences. Kapolka earned bachelor of science degrees in chemistry and ¢emputer science from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA. He was.awarded a master of science degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also received his Ph.D. e000 Damien d. Alexeev, son of Lynn Alexeev of Dallas, enlisted in the United States Air Force's Delayed Enlistment Program recently, ac- cording to Staff Sgt. Bill Bialcak, the local Air Force Recruiter. Damien is a senior at Tunkhannock High School. He is scheduled for enlistment in the regular Air Force on October 13. Upon graduation from the Air Force's six week basic training course, he is scheduled to receive technical training in the general aptitude area. Damien will be earning credits toward an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and other technical training schools. Kathleen G. Williams, Busi- ness Manager /Board Secretary of the Lake-Lehman School District, has been approved as a Pennsyl- vania Registered School Business Administrator (PRSBA), by the Board of Directors of the Pennsyl- vania Association of School Busi- ness Officials (PASBO). Kathleen has been employed by the district since June, 1995. Previously, Kathleen served as a Vice President at PNC Bank and a Municipal Auditor for Lake Town- ship. Mrs. Williams also holds a professional Teaching Certificate in Mathematics. She is the dis- trict administrator with responsi- bility for supervision of the Busi- ness Office, Buildings and Grounds, Food Service, Transpor- tation and Central Receiving and manages the budget totaling $17 million for the current year. In order to be granted profes- sional registered status, a school business official must meet high - personal, ethical, and professional standards established for the reg- istration program which include formal education, experience and continuing education.
