Valley West 5, Dallas 2 John Winter was the lone singles winner for the Mounts, and then he joined with Chris Tucker to win a doubles match 6- 1, 6-2. None of the other matches were close. Crestwood 6, Lehman 1 Dan Nygren won a hard-fought singles match 6-4, 7-5 as the only bright spot for Lehman. Andy Weaver took his match to a third set. Dallas 6, Hanover 1 Dallas won all four singles matches and 2-o0f-3 doubles. The ' Mounts lost only 10 games com- bined in the singles matches. Sem 7, Lehman 0 No matches went to three sets and Sem handed the Knights a goose egg. BASEBALL Nanticoke 15, Lehman 6 The Black Knights never got untracked, as the Trojans added insult to injury with a six-run sixth inning. Greg Woronko started and took the loss, giving up five hits and five runs in three innings. Chad Sorber was the only Lehman player to get two hits, including a double. Woronko hit a solo home run. : Dallas 4, Hanover 1 The Mounts stopped previously unbeaten Hanover at home Mon- day, as Randy Knappman and John Habrack combined for a three-hitter. Knappman started and went four innings, giving up a hit and a run while striking out five. Habrack gave up two hits and struck out seven in the final three innings. J.J. Smith went 2- for-3 with an rbi, Knappman was 1-for-3 with an rbi. Lehman 6, Dallas 5 It was a wild one when the Dallas Mountaineers traveled across town to meet Lehman on the diamond April 15. The Black Knights took a 3-0 lead after three innings, and seemed to be cruis- ing to victory until Dallas scored five times in the top of the sixth. But Lehman didn’t fold, coming back with three runs in the bot- tom of the seventh to walk away with the win. Paul Kapral stroked a single, his second hit of the game, to send home Greg Woronko with the win- ning run. Woronko had singled in the first run of the inning, and Rich Patton drove in the second before Kapral's heroics against a weary John Habrack. Lehman had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Kapral doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error. Jake Rambus, who had reached on that play, scored on a single by Matt Loftus. Patton homered in the third and winning pitcher Matt Montgom- ery kept the Mounts at bay until the sixth inning, when Dallas scored five unearned runs after a Lehman error. Chuck Fehlinger drove in two and Chris Banks hit a two-run home run in the inning. Montgomery ended the game having given up six hits and struck out five. Habrack struck out 13, - but gave up nine hits. Lehman 3, Wyo. Area 2 It wasn’t easy, but the Knights pulled out the win. D.J. Kapson went 2-for-4 and scored two runs, including the winning tally in the top of the seventh. Greg Woronko went the distance, giving up five hits and striking out six. SOFTBALL Lehman 1, GAR 0 The Lady Knights came out on Kingston Township Rec Shootout winners Kingston Township Recreation recently held its annual Basketball Shootout. Boys and girls along with - their parents enjoyed an evening competition, fun, and prizes. Once again the highlight of the event was the parent and child team competition. The team swept through the regular season with a perfect 14-0 record. In the post seasson tournament, they went 3-0, defeating Regis Academy in the championship game. The team placed 2nd in a highly competitive Dallas Youth Basketball Tournament, losing twice to eventual winner Wyoming Valley West. The girls also came in 2nd in the Gate of Heaven 6th Grade Tournament. The team is coached by Mary Durr, Ken Krogulski and Dave Whalen. His record was 7-0. “Major League scouts were at every game Habrack pitched,” said Bittner. “He may be drafted right out of high school as a free agent. Many colleges have also shown interest in him.” Other key players for Dallas includeJeremy Harris, J.J. Smith, Josh Dukas, Chuck Fehlinger, and Randy Knappman. Harris is hitting leadoff as a freshmen, Smith was All-Scholastic in his sophomore and junior years and Dukas is very strong offensively. “Dukas is ripping the ball,” pro- claimed Bittner. Fehlinger hits cleanup and is a co-captain. “Knappman is our versatile guy. He played first base in the first game, pitched in the second game, caught in the third, and DH’d in the fourth game. He wears many hats”. Major League scouts from the Dodgers, Yankees, Reds, Astros, Twins, Angels, Brewers, Arizona - and Indians have been in atten- dance at Dallas games. “As it looks right now, each kid has been talking to colleges. Ev- ery senior from last year went on to play for college.” Bittner said.
