The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, April 14,1999 7" Prison volunteers to be honored The regular volunteers who serve at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas will be hon- ored Tuesday, April 20. The pro- gram will take place in the chapel and feature a variety of speakers. ‘Representing the inmate popu- lation’ will be Kenneth “Saboor” Porter, a member of the Islamic religious community at the State facility. Staff speakers will in- clude- W. James Pall (Facility Chaplaincy Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator, Norm Demming, inmate Program Man- ager, Thomas Stachelek, Deputy Superintendent Centralized Ser- vices and David H. Larkins, Su- perintendent. Music for the program will be provided by “Firestorm”, an in- mate band, and the Food Service / Culinary Department will provide refreshments. Last year 100 volunters in- volved in 18 separate activities provided nearly 3,000 volunteer hours of service. Senjor Citizens Centers spon- sored by the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Bureau for the Aging of- fer hot noon meals Monday through Friday to people 60 years of age or older. Donations from participants are gratefully accepted and needed in order to expand this program. . The following is the menu for the week of April 19. All meals include margarine, milk and cof- fee. MONDAY - Sausage and pep- pers, oven brown potatoes, broc- coli, hoagie roll, applesauce. wy TUESDAY - Baked chicken, au gratin potatoes, green beans almondine, apricot nectar, French roll, French onion soup, choco- late mousse. WEDNESDAY - Beef braciole, whipped potatoes, spinach, whole wheat bread, chilled peaches, lemon. THURSDAY - Caribbean Day. Bake ham w/ fruit sauce, vegetable medley, butternut squash, whole wheat roll, lemon pudding. FRIDAY - Turkey on Kaiser roll, cole slaw, mixed fruit, tomato juice, brownie, turkey noodle soup, mustard. Sister Circle aids Haitians project..It was a huge success. A candidate for Re- publican nomination, he has served on the board for four con- secutive terms. He said he “would like to continue good government.” Dr.John A. Koch, professor of math and computer science at Wilkes University, will provide colleagues and students with “The Solution of the Four Color Prob- lem” at Siena College, Loudonville, NY, on Saturday, April 17. As keynote speaker for the an- nual Hudson River Undergradu- ate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC), Koch will discuss the mathematical foundations of the problem, the historical ap- proaches and the actual process involved in the solution. The one-day conference is held each Spring semester and is at- tended by students and faculty from colleges, universities, and community colleges in New York and the New England area. Its goal is to provide undergraduates with the experience of attending and/or presenting at a profes- sional mathematics meeting. Koch was a graduate student on the team involved in solving the Four Color Problem in 1976. He has been part of the Wilkes family for the past 23 years and has recently written an online web testing program currently in use at the University. He acquired a bachelor of science degree from the Univer- sity of California at Santa Bar- bara and earned a master’s and doctoral degree from Cornell Uni- versity. Lew helps compose the tests for the Annual High School Mathematics Competition held at Wilkes, and coordinates the Wilkes Summer Program for Advanced Placement Teachers.
