Playing for the 8th grade team are Shannon Thomas, Meredith Lacey, Jackie Hardwick, Halli, Williams, Ashleigh King, Rachel Kukosky, Jonelle Dickson, Nicole Bostock and Kelly Brzozowski. Other teams participating in the 7th grade are Hanover, Wyoming Val- ley West (maroon & gold), Pittston Area, Lake Lehman and Wyoming Area, Other teams participating in the 8th grade are Hanover Area, Wyoming Valley West (white & maroon), Nanticoke, Gate of Heaven and Lake-Lehman. Both teams are coached by Lew Tho- mas, Mark Lacey and Joe Noon. Finals DYB Girls 7th Grade 33 - WVW (gold) 27 Rosalyn Wentko exploded for a game high 17 points to go along with many big rebounds to lead her team to the championship victory. Other players contribut- ing for the victory were Caitlin Dukas 8 points and a dozen as- sists, Brooke Blase 3 points, Lauren Suppon, Kara Ringler 2 points apiece and Jaime Youngblood 1 point. DYB Girls 8th Grade 31 - Lehman 17 Shannon Thomas led all scor- ers with 13 points and helped her team win the 8th grade champi- onship. Lauren Noreika and Jaime Youngblood played a good defense. DYB Girls 8th Grade 50 - WVW (white) 39 Shannon Thomas had a game high 20 points including 3 of 4 three pointers. Other scorers for Dallas Youth Basketball were Jackie Hardwick, 8 points, Rachel Kukosky 7 points, Ashleigh King 6 points, including a three pointer, Meredith Lacey 3 points, Halli Williams and Jonelle Dickson 2 points apiece. Nicole Bostock played a good defensive game. BMT Baseball, Softball tryouts this week Back Mountain Baseball and Softball will conduct tryouts for the 1999 season on March 17 and March 20. Softball tryouts for players new to the program or for players moving up to major league or senior league competition will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 at the Dallas Township school gym. Baseball tryouts for new players and all those who wish to move up to major league competition or play on minor league teams, ages 8 to 12, will be held at the Dallas Middle School gym on Saturday, March 20. American League tryouts will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. while National League tryouts will take place from 1-5 p.m. Sign up for trip to Women’s World Cup The Back Mountain Freedom Girls U-12 Soccer team is sponsoring a bus trip Saturday, June 19 to the Women's World Cup Opener at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands. The package includes a ticket to the opening ceremony, the official opening doubleheader, and trans- portation onan air-conditioned video bus. The first game features USA vs. Denmark, followed by Mexico vs. Brazil. Cost is $50 per person and trip is limited to 50 people. For reservations or more information contact Bill Tooley at 675-9515. Lehman takes GOH 6th grade title Lake-Lehman won the 6th grade championship in the William F. Cusick tournament at Gate of Heaven. The Knights beat Dallas 44- 37 in the championship game. Caleb Piatt was the leading Lehman scorer with 13 points, followed by Brandon Burkhardt with 10 and Matt Staub with 7. Oldham earns letter for Merchant Marines Doug Oldham, a sophomore defensive back, earned his first varsity letter with the US Merchant Marine Academy Foot- = ; ball Team, this past fall. Oldham, who played in ; seven of the Mariners’ nine games, tallied 10 tackles, an interception, a pass break-up, and a forced fumble. The US Merchant Marine Academy Football Team wrapped up the 1998 season with a 6-3 overall record and a second-place finish in the Freedom Football Conference with a 4-2 mark. Oldham, a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Oldham of Shavertown. He is a Marine Transportation Major at the Academy. Easter tournament at Four Seasons Four Seasons Golf Club, Exeter, will be holding their 8th annual Easter Tournament on Sunday, March 28, with tee times starting at 9 a.m. The format will be “Captain & Crew." Entry fee of $30 per person includes 18 holes, meal, beverages, prizes for flight winners and contests held on the course. To reserve a tee time, dall 655-8869. Matt Gingo, Dallas, was the only Back Mountain wrestler to come back from the state wres- tling meet with a medal, for seventh place at 189 1b. Gingo, who suffered his first defeat of the season at the Northeast Regionals, won his preliminary bout at Hersheypark Arena with a come-from-behind 8-7 vic- tory over Aaron Cantafio of Brockway. Friday was harder; Gingo dropped a 9-2 decision to the eventual state champion, Derek Tipton, in the quarter finals, then decisioned Ryan Wetzel of Lewisburg 5-2 in the second-round consolations. Gingo returns from states with medal The day ended with a 7-3 loss to Eric Fehnel, leaving Gingo to wrestle Saturday for seventh or eighth place. Saturday, Gingo’s scheduled opponent could not wrestle, so he won seventh by forfeit. Lake-Lehman sent two wres- tlers to states, but neither reached the top eight. Nick Raczkowski (112) won his pre- liminary bout Thursday, but lost two in a row Friday to be eliminated. Matt Magee (125) bounced back from a loss in the prelims to win Thursday after- noon, but lost a second-round consolation match Friday.
