She resided in the Back Moun- tain area all of her life. She graduated from Kingston Township High School and Wilkes- Barre Business College. Before retiring, she was em- ployed as an office clerk for the former Bergman's Department Store in Edwardsville. She was affiliated with and at- tended Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church in Edwardsville and the Christian Assembly Church of Wilkes-Barre. She was also a member of the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her son, William. Surviving are her sons, Keith S., Virginia Beach, VA; K. Will- iam, Harveys Lake; and two grand- children. Interment, Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston Township. EDITH BIRTH Edith L. Birth, 96, formerly of South Pioneer Avenue, in Trucksville, Kingston Township, died Feb. 20, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Langhorne. Born in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late William and Nettie Kreidler Gress. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and re- sided in Trucksville for 65 years before moving to Langhorne, one year ago. She was a member of the Trucksville United Methodist "Church and the White Shrine of Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Surviving are a daughter, Lola Birth-Breed, Langhorne, with whom she resided and a son, Harold C.W., Santa Monica, CA; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment, Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton, Kingston Town- ship. JAMES DENNIS James O. Dennis, 56, of Centermoreland died Feb. 19, 1999 following a heart attack while he was driving a tractor trailer in Jefferson County. Born Nov. 13, 1942, in Hunts- ville, he was the son of the late Oliver and Inez Boston Dennis. He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1984 after serving for 24 years. He was currently employed by Campos Trucking in Tunkhannock. A wife, the former Ann Dun- ning, and a brother, Fred Dennis, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 13 years, the former Grace Brown; sons, James Dennis, Peter Den- nis and Paul Dennis, at home; a daughter Alicia Ward in Dallas; a stepson, Joseph Rigby, Falls ; step- daughters, Sharon Rigby at home, Beth Hines, Jacksonville, NC; and Christine Rigby at home; broth- ers, Ronald Dennis, Dallas; Ed- ward Dennis, Noxen; John Den- nis, Courtdale; sisters, Mary Jane Morio, Wilkes-Barre; Estelle Davison, Pringle; Gwendolyn Wynn, Plymouth; Linda Wilcox, Noxen; and Joan Kempa, Ply- mouth; seven grandchildren. Interment, Maple Grove Cem- etery, Pikes Creek. GEORGE KASENCHAK George Kasenchak, 80, of West Meadow Street, Shavertown, died Feb. 16, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Bukovich) Kasenchak. He was a registered x-ray tech- nician and supervisor of the x-ray department at the Nanticoke State Hospital for 17 years. He also was employed as a hospital supervi- sor at State Correctional Institute at Dallas. He was a member of St. Therese’s Church in Shavertown; St. Therese’s Holy Name Society; and the American Society of Ra- diologic Technologists. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Peter, Michael, Jo- seph and John; sisters, Helen Tuczynski, Julia Boback, Irene Katra, Theresa Dadey and Mary Kloss. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Broski; daughters, Karen Pavilco, Luzerne; Colleen Horvath, Lake Silkworth; Lynn Manzoni, Jackson Township; and Teresa Kasenchak, Swoyerville; seven grandchildren; sisters, Anna Bigus, Hanover Township and Catherine Zionkowski, Nanticoke. DOROTHY TERRY JAWBACK Dorothy Terry Jawback, 82, died February 1 at her home in Allentown. She was born in Edwardsville the daughter of Fos- ter and Evalyn Eynon Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband John Jawback, son Elwood “Duffer” Terry and brother Foster “Bud” Sutton. She resided over 40 years in the Harveys Lake and Dallas ar- eas, where she was employed as a cook and housekeeper and storeowner. In the late 50's she moved to the Easton, Pa and then to Allentown where she was in the restaurant business with her sur- viving son, Kenneth Terry of Slatington. Other survivors include sisters Marian Wilson of Noxen and Evalyn Kelly of Rockville, MD, four grandchildren, two great-grand- children, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on February 4 with interment at Ce- dar Hill Cemetery in Allentown. JAMES LAWSON James Richard Lawson, 65, of Tunkhannock, formerly of Trucksville, Kingston Township, died Feb. 18, 1999 at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Samuel James and Jenny Reese Lawson. He was a 1951 graduate of Kingston Township schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a techni- cian at the Plainwell Paper Co. He was a member of the George M. Dallas Lodge 531 F&AM in Dallas; the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Irem Temple in Dallas; and the Keystone Consistory in Scranton. He was preceded in death by a sister Helen Lawson Houghton. Surviving are his wife, the former Pauline Robinson; daugh- ters, Jennifer Gavek, Tunkhannock; Tammy Day, Tunkhannock and Pamela McDonald, FLA; sons, Richard John Lawson, Dalton and James Samuel Lawson, Tunkhannock; stepsons, Elwood Thompson Jr., Harveys Lake and Bryan Thomp- son, Dallas; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a niece and nephew. Oleski, 88, formerly of Overbrook Road in Shavertown died Feb. 9, 1999 at the home of her son in Boles, Ark. Born Dec. 3, 1910, in the Par- sons section of Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Bartish. She was a member of the first graduating class of GAR Memo- rial High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1928, and had attended Bloomsburg Teachers College. She was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; daughter, Joan H. Karnofsky and brothers, Edward, Edmund and Joseph Jr. Surviving are her son, John, Boles, Ark.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; brother, Isador, Australia and nieces and nephews. Interment, Maple Hill Cem- etery, Hanover Township. MICHAEL STERNLIEB Dr. Michael Jay Sternlieb, 44, of Winston, GA, died Feb. 15, 1999. He was the son of Dr. Sanford and Esther Sternlieb, Dallas. He was a graduate of Wilkes- Hahnemann Medical School and served his surgical internship at ° Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia. He also served a residency in orthopedic surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Cleveland, OH, and served a total joint fellowship in St. Louis, MO. He practiced or- thopedic surgery in Atlanta for 10 years. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Diane Sternlieb; daughters, Sarah, Jayne and Rachael Ann Sternlieb; son, Eric Hamilton Sternlieb; sis- ter, Susan Joy Sternlieb, Fort Collins, CO; and brother, Dr. Jef- frey L.
