Born April 17, 1909, in Luzerne, he was the son of the late John . and Leonarda Cortegerone Barbose. He was educated in Luzerne schools and was a resident of the Luzerne and Swoyersville area most of his life. He formerly owned and oper- ated a grocery store on Bennett Street in Luzerne for 19 years and was later employed at. Wilkes- Barre General Hospital as a nurses assistant before retiring 25 years ago. He was a member of St. Anthony's R.C. Church in Exeter and the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of the Black Diamond Grocery Associa- tion and he participated in many local shows as a singer, dancer and producer. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Angeline Zachary, in 1989; a son, John Barbose; brothers, Charles, Phillip, Anthony and Joseph Barbose; and a sister, Katherine Ruggere. Surviving are a son, Samuel A. Barbose, Shavertown, Kingston Township; a brother, John Barbose, Port Elizabeth, NJ; four grandchildren; three great-grand- children; and numerous nieces and nephews. HELEN COOMBS Helen (Mekeel) Rice Coombs, 83, of Dorchester Drive, Dallas, died Feb. 7, 1999 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jennie Hope Mekeel. She attended the Lehman schools and re- sided in Dallas most of her life. Before retir- ing, she was employed as manager of the Dallas Junior High School caf- eteriaand atthe family owned former Orchard Farm Restaurant. She was a member of the Dal- las United Methodist Church, its Colwell Class and the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Jackson Grange and the Penn- sylvania State Grange. She was a member of Lady Toby Rebekah Lodge 514, Lehman and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 396, Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenneth Rice and Elbert Coombs; an infant daugh- ter; brothers, Russell and Charles Mekeel; sisters, Marjorie Walter and Ruth Owens; half sisters, Joanne Rizzi and Roxanne Mar- tin. Surviving are her children, Rob- ert Rice, William Rice, Linda Kozick, with whom she resided, Barbara Goldsmith and Diane Traver, all of Dallas; Rita Gillham, MD; stepchildren, Kenneth Coombs, Kingston; Charles Coombs, Centermoreland; Barry and Brian Coombs, both of Leh- man; Kevin Coombs, Harveys Lake; Sharon Sink, Raleigh, NC; half sisters, Patricia Downs, DE; Judith Blum, FL; 16 grandchil- dren; 10 great-grandchildren; and step grandchildren. (Dyke) Kopetchny, 78, of East Center Street in Shav- ertown, died Feb.1, 1999 at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born Aug. 31, 1920, in Wilkes- Barre, she was a daughter of the late Walter E. and Elizabeth (Tho- mas) Dyke. She was a graduate of Coughlin High School and Wyoming Semi- nary School of Business. During World War II, she was employed as a secretary for Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Tambria Club in Wilkes-Barre and ‘the Orpheus Choral Society of Wyo- ming Valley. She was also a choir member and elder of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Stanley Raymond; son, David, Edwardsville; daughter, Peggy Jane Toma, Endicott, NY; two sisters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by the Cre- mation Society of Pennsylvania. HELEN LASKY Helen Lasky, 86, formerly of the Meadows Apartments in Dal- las, died Feb. 2, 1999 at Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. Born in the Meeker section of Lehman Township, she lived in Jackson Township most of her life before moving to the Meadows Apartments 20 years ago. She was employed by General Cigar in Kingston for 35 years, retiring 24 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and broth- ers, Steven Radonavitch and Nicholas Radonavitch. Surviving are her daughter, Jennie Jones, Shavertown sec- tion of Jackson Township; four grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.
