A medical mission comprises part of Becqui’s trip. The physi- cians will see over 2,000 people in five days, and many residents sleep in line to assure a doctor's visit. Becqui will assist the doc- tors and nurses from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every.day, and then work 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. every night in the accompanying crusades. “It's not a vacation,” says her mother. 2 ) ®Becqui is‘responsible for minis- tering to péople on their way into the medical tent. During the tent crusade, Becqui will dress up like a clown to enter- tain children. “They teach about Christ in a fun way to capture their attention,” says Becqui. “They have clowns and puppets and things that kids like.” 2) 9 “It’s life changing,” says Becqui. “If you have a chance to go on a trip like this, go.” “I think it's an awesome idea,” says Principal Frank Galicki of Dallas ‘High School. Galicki cites both the educational and religious opportunities the trip offers. “When she returns I'm going to ask herto share information with other students,” he says, with the hope that it may inspire others to WP ® the same. Galicki also credits the flexibility of class scheduling as useful in Becqui’'s completion of course requirements. Michael Messersmith named student of month Wyoming Seminary senior Michael Messersmith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael F. Messersmith of Dallas, was named Student of the Month for December by the Kingston Lions Club. Messersmith has received many awards and honors at Wyoming Seminary including the Navy ROTC scholar- ship, the Brown University Book award, the Teresa Jordan and Frank . J. Mehm II Schol- arship award, was named an AP Scholar, and was therecipient of Sem'’s Trusteee Achievement Scholar- ship. This year Messersmith is the Student Government President, and was vice-president of Stu- dent Government for his sopho- more and junior years. He is involved in the perform- ing arts at Sem as a member of the Wyoming Seminary Players, and has had featured roles in many of MICHAEL MESSERSMITH their productions. He is also a member of the Wyoming Seminary Orchestra and the Pep Band. Messersmith par- ticipates in several clubs includ- ing Model United Nations, of which he is a Head Delegate, the Blue Key Service Club, and the Orien- tation Committee. He is also a member of the Yearbook Club, serving as its sports editor. Messersmith has attended the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Teaching in his junior year, and the University of Pennsylva- nia Summer Science Academy in his sophomore year. He was also a member of the football and golf teams. Also, Messersmith has volun- teered his time in many capaci- ties, including acting as School Coordinator for the Holidays Toys for Tots Drive, participating in the UNA Thanksgiving Food Basket Project, the Adopt-A-Highway Pro- gram, and serving as an usher at Shavertown United Methodist Church. Messersmith looks for- ward to a career in the Navy and in the education field.
