Baker returns from educational tour, commended for achievement Jason Baker of Dallas was re- cently honored with a gathering at the Golden Palace in Wilkes- Barre, to celebrate his recent re- turn from an educational tour of the Canadian Provinces, New England States and the United Nations. Jason a student at Dal- las High School was selected from a group of students who excel in their study of World Cultures, History and social Studies. The bus tour sponsored by the Independent Order of Odd Fel- lows and its District Lodges (in- cluding Oneida Lodge #371 of Dallas), was part of the IOOF’s United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Program. During the ten- day trip, the students toured the Gettysburg Battlefields, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Ottawa; Boston, MA and Philadelphia. The trip culminated with a four- day stay in New York City where the group joined other U.N. Pil- grimage touring groups from around the world. During the stay in New York, the group visited the World Trade Center, South Street Sea Port, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and other sites. In addition the delegates spent two days touring the United Nations, learning the workings of the world body and receiving briefings by members of the Secretariat. Jason is currently a senior in the Dallas Area School District and will be continuing his studies by attending college. Sem students encouraged to take scholarship exam Area eight-and ninth-grade stu- dents are encouraged to register for Wyoming Seminary’s Trustee Achievement Scholarship Exam, to be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at the school’s Kingston campus. The Trustee Achievement Scholarship program, now in its 18th year, recognizes leading stu- dents. Up to five scholarships will be awarded to students who com- bine outstanding performance on the competitive exam with a solid record of citizenship and achieve- ment. Current Seminary students will conduct tours during the af- ternoon for prospective students and their parents, and admission representatives will meet with families. Students entering ninth or 10th grade who are not currently en- rolled at Wyoming Seminary are eligible for the scholarship pro- gram. First place and second place winners were given T-shirts and gift certificates from the Tudor Book Store. When the administration determines that unsafe road conditions exist, they will initiate the snow Rt. proce- dure.
