Krohn of Dallas, recently com- pleted basic trainign at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Is- land, SC. Krohn and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Cru- cible, a 54-hour team effort, prob- lem solving evolution which cul- minated with an emotional cer- emony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Em- blem, and were addressed as “Ma- rines” for the first time since boot camp began. Krohn joins 41,000 men and women who will enter the Marine Corps this year from all over the country. He is a 1998 graduate of Dallas High ‘School. ooo William R. Tucker of Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion. 109th Field Artil- lery, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was promoted to his present rank during a recent cer- emony at the Kingston Armory. Lieutenant Colonel Mark Scott of Tunkhannock, the Battalion Com: mander, conducted the ceremony. Sergeant Tucker's wife, Daenel, assisted by pinning on her husband's new insignia. Sergeant Tucker joined the 109th in August, 1996 and serves as a fire Support Sergeant. He supervises a team of soldiers who call for and adjust field artillery rounds onto enemy targets. He serves as a liaison with infantry and armor leaders’ to provide field artillery support in combat. Sergeant Tucker has served in the military for 14 years. He is a graduate of the Primary Leader- ship Development Course and Basic Non-Commissisoned Officer Course. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal and Army Achievement Medal. Sergeant Tucker is a 1984. graduate of Dallas Senior High School. He works as a Techni- cian(3) with Proctor & Gamble in- Mehoopany. He lives with his wife, Daenel and their five chil- dren, Narieka (12), Anjuli (4), Jazmine (2), Brandon (2) and Bryanna (1) in Shavertown. 00 Mercy Hospice needs caring volunteers Volunteers are needed for Mercy Hospice in the Wilkes-Barre area as well as the surrounding communities. Mercy Hospice is a non-profit, hospital-based, certified agency that offers a way of caring which brings comfort to people at the end of life. Volunteers for Mercy Hospice are helping to support a terminally ill patient and their family, while taking part in a very gratifying experience. Volunteers can assist by visiting patients in their homes to give families a rest or allow them to work or run errands. They can also assist with shopping for the family, provide general comfort and support or work on clerical projects in the Hospice Office.
