Teams unbeaten in WVW League Dallas Youth Basketball girl's 7th grade and 8th grade teams are undefeated after first half of play in the Wyoming Valley West League. Amy Pack and Stephanie Yeung honored for volunteerism Amy Pack, eighth grade, was named the Dallas Middle School volunteer of the year in the Pru- dential Spirit of Community Awards program recently. In ad- dition, Stephanie Yeung, eighth gradereceived a Certificate of Merit for her volunteer community ser- vice. Sponsored by Prudential and the National Association of Sec- ondary School Principals, the awards recognize outstanding community service. Pack is now eligible for the Pennsylvania youth volunteer of the year awards. Two State Honorees, one middle-level and one high-school student will each receive a $1,000 award, a silver medallion, and travel to Washington, D.C., for recognition ceremonies with one parent or guardian in May. Other Honorees may receive bronze medallions or Certificates of Excellence. At the Washington event, 10 National Volunteers of the Year will be named by a national panel of judges, each receiving an addi- tional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for his or her school. Pack is being recognized for her volunteer work as a candystriper at the Meadows Nursing Home. Yeung is a candystriper at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. Anthony Martinelli, principal of the Dallas Middle School praised the students for the volunteer ser- vice. Martinelli said, “These young ladies have distinguished them- selves through their volunteer service. Our school community is very proud of their efforts.
