Mis program receives accredidation The Radiography program at College Misericordia was recently recognized as an outstanding program by the profession’s national accrediting agency. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) awarded the program the maximum accreditation period of eight years this fall, said Dr. Elaine Halesey, program director and associate professor of radiography. Since 1987, the program has received two of the committee’s maximum awards of five years’ accreditation, she said. Tara Dymond, a junior radiography student from Shavertown, practices venipuncture on an artificial arm as Robert Comello, assistant professor of radiography at Misericordia, observes. Venipuncture is one of many skills Misericordia radiography students develop as they complete their studies. John Rosser receives PSU Faculty Outreach Award The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Award for Faculty Outreach was recently given to John Rosser, a physics instructor at the Wilkes- Barre campus. This award was established by the External Af- fairs committee of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Advisory Board to reward a full-time faculty mem- ber who, through outreach activi- ties such as instructional pro- gramming applied research or outstanding service, has estab- lished a link between the Univer- sity and individuals, organizations or communities. Rosser, a former Penn State Wilkes-Barre student, holds an associate degree in Electrical En- gineering and a Bachelor of Sci- ence degree in physics. He re- turned to the campus in 1990 to oversee operations of the Fried- man Observatory and opens the facility to the public every Wednes day and Friday night (weather permitting). He hosts private and school groups by appointment and opens the observatory for special events such as comets, meteor . showers and eclipses. When the comet Hale-Bopp passed in1997, an estimated 500 people a night visited the campus. Rosser also has made learning astronomy fun for children attending Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Summer Youth Camps for the past three years!” A $500 scholarship is desig: nated in the winner's name to be awarded to a deserving student in the 1999-2000 year. In addition, the winner's ap- plication from each campus will be submitted for the University’s Penn State Award for Faculty Out- reach which offers a $1,000 cash gift. Wyoming Sem.
