The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 25, 1998 13 Mary Kozlek is part of EMS program Mary Kozlek of Shavertown a junior biology major at Franklin & Marshall College, is participating in the St. Joseph Hospital Emer- gency Medical Preceptorship Pro- gram. Sponsored by Franklin & Marshall's Office of Pre-Healing Arts and St. Joseph Hospital, this program offers students the op- portunity to observe the evalua- tion and treatment of patients in an emergency situation. Students are matched with a member of the nursing staff as well as an emer- gency services physician. This year-long program requires stu- dents to commit to weekly two- hour shifts and a total of approxi- mately 30 hours. The program is open to all Franklin & Marshall students. Kozlek, a 1996 graduate of Wyoming Seminary, is the daugh- ter of Mary and Dr. Thomas Rozick, Shavertown. Solorzano honored by National Hispanic Recognition Program Adriana Solorzano of Shavertown, a senior at Wyoming Seminary, has been recognized as an Honorable Mention Finalist in the National Hispanic Recogni- ‘tion Program. Solorzano is one of only 3,000 Hispanic stu- dents in the na- tion recognized by the program, out of 150,000 students eligible nationwide. The program, administered by the College Board, provides national recogni- tion of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high- school seniors, and identifies aca- demically well-prepared Hispanic seniors for colleges and universi- ties. ADRIANA SOLORZANO From more than 150,000 stu- dents nationwide, the 4,000 high- est-scoring students are initially identified as semifinalists. Based on further evidence of their aca- demic achievement, a select group of 3,000 are recognized as pro- gram finalists. Solorzano, the daughter of Mrs. Madeline Solorzano of Shavertown, is captain of Sem’s varsity tennis team, and is a mem- ber of the school’s AIDS Aware- ness group, Environmental Club, and International Club. Featured in Who's Who Among American High School Students, she is active in community ser- vice. She organized the “Reaching Out for Warm Hands” project, which collected more than 1,200 items of winter clothing for the needy in the Wyoming Valley area. DM students draw for environment Recently all thie science students at the Dallas Middle School had ¥ WER the opportunity to participate in a statewide poster contest “Recycle Pennsylvania.” The posters were judged on creativity and theme by members of the middle school’s science and art departments The 20 winning posters were sent to the Department of Education where they will be judged by a panel of distinguished artists and educators, from across the Commonwealth.
