The loss was the first for Plains in the double-elimination tourney and left Back Mountain National as the lone undefeated team. Plains scored their only run in the top of the first off Ryan Konopki. However, Konopki National's attempt to win the tour- nament with an undefeated record July 31. The Plains victory set up a final game to determine the tour- nament champion. Back Moun- tain rallied from an 8-0 deficit to score nine runs in the third in- ning, but could not hold the lead. Ryan Konopki had two hits for Back Mountain, including a triple. Jeff Clemente also banged out a triple. Konopki and Mike Stolarick each scored tworuns. Mike Prater had four RBI, three of which came on abases-clearing double. Shiskowski pitched six innings in the tournament so far, yielding only one hit while stiking 12. Burkhardt and Sean Leary each hit twohomeruns and Matt Straub slugged one. Burkhardt leads the team with nine hits, 10 runs for three with two homeruns, five RBI's and three runs to lead Na- tional over Wyoming. Sean Leary went two for two with three RBI and also hit a homer. Eric Kurello and Matt Straub each scored twice. Luke Marchakitus was two for three with a triple and David Harrison had a double. Dylan Seeley smacked three hits for Back Mountain, including two doubles, while Steve Cornia and Ryan Konopki each had two hits with Cornia picking up adouble. Chris DeRojas scored three runs in the game and also knocked in three on a bases-loaded triple. John Giampietro scored two runs while Seeley had three RBI and Cornia knocked home two. Cornia excelled on the mound in pitching a complete game. He struck out nine while walking only two. Plains 17 - Bk. Mt. National 13 Plains derailed Back Mountain feated defending champion Plains 7-6 on Aug. 1 to win the Plains Invitational 8 and 9 Year Old Tour- nament. Back Mountain rode to victory behind the clutch pitching of Mike Prater, the team’s sole eight year old, who struck out five in pitching a complete game. Prater was matched by Plains ace Mike Ramirez, who struck out 11 in going the distance. Back Mountain trailed 6-5 en- tering the sixth inning. With one out, Dylan Seeley’s line drive into centerfield drove home Chris DeRojas from second base, tying the score at 6-6. It was DeRojas’s third run scored in the game. Moments later, Ryan Konopki delivered the game-winning blow, a two-out single toright field which drove home Seeley from second. Steve Cornia led Back Moun- tain with three hits, including two doubles and three RBI. Seeley picked up two RBI. Greg Harris smacked a double. Konopki made the key defen- sive play of the game in the fourth inning. With Plains already hav- ing scored three runs, the bases were loaded with none out. BMT b-ball to hold tourney August 8 Back Mountain Baseball will hold their first 8 to 9-year old tourna- ment beginning on Sat., Aug. 8. Format is eight teams, single elimination. There will be four quarterfinal round games on Saturday. Plymouth will play Back Mt. American at 10:30 a.m., followed by Wyoming vs. North Wilkes-Barre at 1 p.m. At 3:30, Hanover will play TR Exeter, followed by Back Mt. National against Mayflower at 6 p.m. The {Ty fe semiffinals will take place on Tues., Aug. 11 at 5:30 and 7:45.
