The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, May 20, 1998 3 Crynes (continued from page 1) “People are really excited. ; Friends and people from past as- signments have been calling,” he said. Church members see the honor the same way as Crynes. “I was ; glad for him,” said Beth Aciukewicz of Shavertown. “We share in his happiness. I'm happy for the church. The church was honored as well as him.” _ Aciukewicz, who has been at- tending St. Therese's for five years, describes Crynes as a “gifted” pastor. “He challenges us to be a part of the community. He has a real gift in tying Christianity in with everyday life. He's a special man,” she said. Eileen Rockensies of Shaver- town feels the same way. “Crynes is a very, very unusual and spe- cial person. He is very sensitive to everyone's needs,” she said. ~ Rockensies is homebound, but certainly does not feel left out of the parish. “Having come from New York I never met up with a parish such as this. This is parish where no one is te Although she cannot make it to Sunday mass, she never misses itz “The. tape ministry will bring an audio taping of the service and a church bulletin,” she said. On Christmas she received a Poinset- tia, and cards on Valentine's and Mother's Day. “He branches out and is involved with the entire community.” Eileen Rockensies St. Therese’s parishioner Also. every first Friday of the month, communion is brought to people who are homebound. *Once every three months: he makes his rounds and always makes time to get in a visit,” said Rockensies, whose daughter, son and husband attend church weekly. “It means very much that he takes the time himself.” Rockensies said Crynes has helped create many new minis- tries within the church that con- tinue to grow. “He has brought tremendous unity to the commu- nity. He also brought an ecu- menical feeling for the commu- nity. He branches out and is involved with the entire commu- nity,” she said. Crynes said, “There are so many good things happening in the Back Mountain. Each parish by itselfis doing the best it can.” Crynes was ordained in 1967 after graduating from St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. He is originally from Scranton and at- tended Scranton Preparatory School. POST PHOTO/KYLIE SHAFFERKOETTER Fr.
