Cleanup bids accepted By JENNIFER JUDGE Post Correspondent DALLAS BOROUGH - At the regular monthly meeting of the Dallas Borough Council, council members voted to award the spring cleanup bid to Waste Re- duction and Recycling of Wilkes- Barre. The borough received four bids for cleanup, but Waste Reduction had the low bid for cost per cubic ton for disposal of refuse. Milt Lutsey, borough manager, ex- plained the borough receives mostly refuse. “The big thing here is the price of $8.50 for refuse,” he said during the meeting. Waste Reduction and Recycling was awarded the bid last year and the borough was pleased with the service. “The service last year was fantastic,” said Dallas Borough Road Supervisor, Charles Shurites. He added that dumpsters arrived at 6 a.m., un- like past years when dumpsters sometimes didn’t show up until 10 a.m. There was some debate among board members as to whether or not the board should make a de- cision with only a few minutes to look over the figures. Board mem- ber Theodore Wright abstained from the vote not because he dis- agreed with awarding the bid, but because he “disagreed with the process. don’t like this process of having numbers thrown at us. We can’t open these bids on the night of a meeting. I'm supposed to make a decision in 10 minutes?” Lutsey said that future bid deadlines will be scheduled for the night of the council's work session instead of the council meeting so that council will have a chance to discuss and review numbers before making a deci- sion. The spring cleanup is sched- uled to take place May 4-10.
