Financial aid night at PSU Jan. 8 & 15 Two information nights on financial aid for college have been set at Penn State Wilkes-Barre for Thurs., Jan. 8 and Thurs., Jan 15. The free programs begin at 7 p.m. in Hayfield House on the campus at Lehman. The financial aid nights are open to all prospective Penn State students as well as any interested persons regardless of where they plan to attend college. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend. A variety of financial aid options are available to both traditional- aged and adult students. Topics to be discussed include grants, loans, admission procedures, scholarships, and college work-study opportu- nities. Information on Wilkes-Barre Campus scholarships will also be ~ Lake-Lehman seeking host families for chorus students Lake-Lehman Senior High School will be the site of the P.M.E.A. District 9 Chorus Festi- val. The four day choral festival will begin on Wed., Jan. 28, and culminate with a delightful con- cert on Sat., Jan. 31. The concert will be held at 2 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Approximately 170 students from 30 Northeastern PA school districts will be participating in this wonderful concert. Several hundred students auditioned at Abington Heights High School in October for the privilege of being a part of the PMEA District 9 Cho- rus Festival. This choral festival will be a huge undertaking for the Lake-Lehman School District. We are asking residents of the Back Mountain for assistance in housing the participants of Dis- _ trict Chorus. We will be needing housing for approximately 160 students. The school-wide collection competition resulted in a total of 51 boxes of assorted food items and $183.61 being turned over to the bank. Mr. Suppon’s seventh grade homeroom won the contest and will receive a pizza party for its effort on behalf of the area’s needy. The members of the student council wish to thank the people of the Back Mountain for their continuing support for this worthwhile activity. . Penn State begins annual fund drive Team captains of Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s community division of the 1997-98 Annual Fund campaign met recently at a kickoff breakfast. Michael Morgan, chair of this year's community division, announced that its goal is set at $70,000. The overall Annual Fund goal is $150,000. More than seventy-five volunteers from seven teams are contacting friends and businesses of the local campus, The Annual Fund drive : will conclude on June 30. The campaign is the only source of scholarships for academically and financially deserving students who attend the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus. Last year, more than 80 students received scholarships from Annual Fund monies. During the past twelve years, more than 900 scholarships have been awarded. the campaign also provides a pool of unrestricted funds to support faculty scholarship activities and student life programs.
