Cimochowski, MD., a resident of Dallas, recently visited the Na- tional Theatre in Warsaw, Poland, to attend a special holiday and fund raising concert featuring the renowned opera star Jose Carreras. The concert raised over $500,000 for the Friends of the Litewska Children’s Hospsital Foundation, a private, indepen- dent charitable institution estab- lished jointly by the U.S. Agency for International Development, Litewska Hospital and the War- saw business community. Dr. Cimochowski serves as chairman of the board of directors of Friends of Litewska Children’s Hospital. Dr. Cimochowskiand Carreras also co-signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” between the . Friends of Litewska Hospital and the Jose Carreras International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukemia, of which Carreras serves as president and founder. In addition, Dr. Cimochowski, who is a frequent visitor to Po- land, began his philanthropic ef- forts to that country in the early 1990's when he spearheaded a series of medical supply and equipment donations on behalf of the Friends of Litewska Children’s Hospital. Doo-Wopp Society to meet January 9 Fri., Jan. 9, will be the N.E.PA Doo-Wopp Society's first meeting for 1998 at 7 p.m. in the VFW Post #4909, 403 Main Street, Dupont, 654-9104. The Nearly-New Kids Shop which is operated by the United Method- ist Women of the Trucksville United Methodist Church will remain closed for the month of January. The overwhelming success of the sale which was run in December has depleted the supply of clothing for sale. The Nearly-New Kids Shop will reopen at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7, with a complete line of children’s clothing, including shirts, pants, jeans, sweaters, sleepwear, dresses and blouses from infant to size 16. The Shop is located in the Memorial Room (lower level) of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, Church Road (just off Rt. 309) Trucksville. Gate of Heaven A & R holds Christmas Party at Castle Inn The Gate of Heaven Altar and Rosary Society recently held its annual Christmas Party at the Castle Inn. Entertainment was #8 provided by Ed Snitko. Door prizes were awarded to many of the 63 guests in attendance. The highlight of the evening was a surprise visit from Santa. Dallas Legion to meet January 9 The Dallas Legion will hold their regular meeting on Fri., Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. Discussions on membership, pig roast and health benefits. The Sons of the American Legion will meet on Sun. Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. Discussed will be increasing membership, more members needed and signing of the charter of the Sons of the Legion. Burning permits required in township Kingston Township reminds residents that Open Burning Permits ar¢ required for all open fires. Residents are reminded that Township Ordinance states that only wood, paper, tree branches, tree leaves and yard trimmings may be burned. The ordinance further states that no hazardous or other objectionable condition will be created by such burning. The Township. encourages residents to utilize other methods of disposal of the items referenced above, such as the township compost area at the Center Street Public Works Facility, the township bagged leaf collection program and the DAMA Recycling Program. The compost site is open Mon. to Fri., 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sat. and Sun., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents may haul leaves, branches and yard trim- mings to this site instead of burning. Residents are also reminded that the township Christmas Tree collection will be conducted Jan. 12 through Jan. 30. Trees must be placed curbside for collection by township crews. The township encourages the residents to participate in the collection program instead of burning trees.
