Checkon, 85, of Media and formerly of Dallas from 1957 to 1993, died Dec. 19, 1997, at the Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media. Born in Swoyersville, June 16, 1912, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Koval Koptcho. She owned and operated with her husband, Buddies Men's Shop, Luzerne from 1936 to 1975. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; grandsons, Mark and Christopher Brady; sev- eral brothers and sisters. Surviving are her son, Joseph, Libertyville, IL; daughters, Marcia Giannini, Diamond Bar, CA; Marion Brady, West Chester; eight grandchildren; four great-grand- children; sister, Margaret Galenty, RUTH DYKE Ruth L. Dyke, 79, formerly of Back Mountain, died Dec. 283, 1997, in the Conner Williams Nursing Home, Ridley Park, fol- lowing a lengthy illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Kathryn Lewis Malkemes. She attended Kingston Town- ship schools.
