That is the question, and the answer may be Lake-Lehman sophomore quarterback D.J. Kapson. After developing tendinitis in his throwing arm during base- Kapson was unable to play the position occupied by his all time favorite NFL player, Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway. But not playing quar- terback during his seventh grade year seems to have had no affect on his progress. “I just worked hard with weights and was able to improve,” Kapson said. ball season a few years ago, “He's got all the tools for a fine athlete, with over 500 yards passing already, and averaging 100 yards per game, he adds a nice touch to any football team,” said Head coach Rich Gorgone. “He has a nice strong arm, but he is just a kid yet. POST PHOTO/JIM PHILLIPS The Kingston Township Raid- ers A-Team won an exciting game against their Back Mountain neighbors the Dallas Jr. Mounts by the score of 14-6. The Raiders are now 5-0 on the season. After both defenses exchanged some great play, the Raiders ground attack took over. Behind some great blocking by the Raid- ers offensive line of Mike Burns, Nick Mathewson, Doug Zaruta, Marty Murray and Billy Youells, tailback Jonathan Nutche and fullback Bobby Zaruta moved the ball on the ground. The drive ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass from QB Justin Sayre to Steven Salavantis for the game's first score. The two point try failed and the Raiders led 6-0. The Mini-Mounts responded with a touchdown of their own in the closing minutes of first half to knot the score at 6-6 at the inter- Big effort mission. Nutche opened the second half with a 30 yard return to give the Raiders good field position. The Raiders offense again put together a solid drive. Danny Piccillo caught two passes and Salavantis added ancther to set up the go ahead score at 28 yards run by QB Sayre. Sayre hit Salavantis on a pass for the two point conver- sion and the Raiders led 14-8. The Raiders defense took over and stopped the Mini-Mounts to preserve the win. Playing well for the Raiders on defense were Paul Saxon, Bobby Hivish, David Rowett, Ryan Pettit and Brad Lothridge. Several Mounts were injured late in the third quarter, making the way easier for the Raiders. R. Bolton and M. Smith made inter- ceptions, and running backs C. Hayes, R. Adams, Bolton, B. The Dallas defense made many fine pass deflections and quarter- back sacks, but came up short on the final score. Kingston Raiders B-team de- feated the Jr. Mounts at home Sunday afternoon 36-12. The Raiders were led offensively by Elijah Miller with three touch- downs. Chris Higdon scored his first touchdown on a 15 yard pass reception from @QB Brian Ostrowsky. Matt Krelly had an electrifying 30 yard scamper breaking numerous tackles set- ting up a one yard Ostrowsky QB sneak. Eddie Grundowski, Higdon and Ostrowsky scored two point conversions. Adam Schoonover took a kick- off return all the way for one of the Jr. Mounts’ touchdowns. Lehman 3, Tunkhannock 3 Lehman and Tunkhannock settled for a 3-3 tie in a battle of unbeatens Sept. 26. The Knights held on to a 3-2 lead with less than two minutes remaining be- fore Tunkhannock stampeded down the field and belted the game tying goal. Leigh Isaac dumped two goals for Lehman and Sarah Kasper added one. Lehman 7, Abington 0 The Knights increased their record to 10-0-1 following a 7-0 whipping of Abington Sept. 29. GOLF Lehman 161, Pittston 201 Chad Sorber, Joe Hardisky and Gary Sagan carded four over par 40’s in the Knights 161-201 vic- tory over Pittston Sept. 25. Dom Castrigano shot a 41. Valley West 171, Lehman 188 Chad Sorber shot a par-40 and Gary Sagan a 46 but it was not enough to get past Valley West as the Spartans dropped Lehman 171-188 Sept 29 at Irem. Dom Castrigano carded a 48 and Matt Loftus a 51. CROSS COUNTRY Lehman 15, Nanticoke 50 Joe Maskalis set a course record at Nanticoke’s 3.2 mile course with a time of 17:53 to pace the Knights to a 15-50 victory Sept. 24. James Lyons posted a time of 18:06 to capture second place. Jason Lyons (18:17), Nick Long (19:06) and Will Bloom (20:11) finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Dallas 23, GAR 36 Matt Schweitzer lead the pack with a time of 19:00 to claim his first Conference victory as Dallas toppled GAR 23-36 Sept 24. Jamie Raub finished third at 19:12 and Jeff Nutche fourth at 19:16. SOCCER Dallas 2, Coughlin 1 Justin Hoover converted a pass from Eric George tobreak a 1-1 tie and shock previously undefeated Coughlin 2-1 Sept. 25. Sean Kileen accounted for the Mounts other goal early in the first off an assist from Mike Cleary. Lehman 1, Valley West 1 Both teams battled to a dead- lock Sept. 25 with both Lehman and Valley West allowing one goal apiece. Dan Dulebohn accounted for the Knights only goal, an un- assisted shot in the first. FOOTBALL Dallas 30, Crestwood 0 Dallasrelied on its ground game for 346 yards as the Mounts bat- tered Crestwood 30-0 Sept. 28. Dallas lit up the boards on their first possession with a six play drive capped by Matt Jackson's 21-yard run. Quarterback Bill Piasta called his own number from the one yard line on the Mounts next drive to increase the lead to 12-0. The extra point attempt on the first two drives failed. Jack- son found the end zone again in the second and third quarters before Paul Onzik completed the scoring with a three yard rush in the third.
