I want someone who can take charge.” According to McCafferty, Dou- glas had all the right qualities. “He is a senior and he is a very sensible kid,” said McCafferty. “His teammates like and respect him and his playing ability makes him a leader on the field.” In addition, Douglas has made the transition to a new position. After starting in the midfield as a junior, he is playing sweeper this season. “I knew coming into the season that [ was going to have to move someone to sweeper,” ex- plained McCafferty. “His skill level and knowledge of the game made him the best person for the posi- tion. National 8-9 All-Stars win championship The Back Mountain National 8 and 9 year old All-Star team won the championship of the Diamond Manufacturing Tournament at the Wyoming/West Wyoming Little League in a thrilling 7-6 victory over a very strong Heights team. Back Mountain entered the bottom half of the sixth and final inning with a 7-4 lead. However, it was much more than one player or one play that won the championship game and kept the team winning through five tough contests. Manager Tom Dougherty, who was ably assisted by coaches John Giampietro and Rob Seeley, said that his players had really come together as a team only after experiencing mod- erate success in three earlier tour- naments. “Each one of our 11 kids made significant contribu- tions to winning this tournament,” stated Dougherty.
